Maize Early Childhood Center
October 2022
Dear MECC Families,
Happy October! We have been so busy learning about Families, Friends, and Fall. It is a great time to enjoy some of the many fun opportunities planned for our students and families. Here are a few highlights:
- Oct 6 – We are hosting the first of three Exploration: Parenting events – Explore Love and Logic! If you are interested, please sign up here or contact the office before Oct 5.
- Oct 20 – Cookie Bookie returns with MECC staff in costumes – so make sure and drive through, say “Hi!” and pick up fun activities and a snack, all centered around the book, “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson; and of course, you also get a copy of the book! See the article later in this newsletter for details.
- Oct 27 – Fall Parties and Costume Parade! Keep your eye on your teacher’s newsletters and notices for Fall Party details! **Students may wear their costumes to school; however, we ask that all accessories that go with the costume remain at home. Please make sure the costume your child wears is school-appropriate (no blood/gore/violence) and “restroom and playground friendly.” Keep your fingers crossed for good weather so our students can show off their costumes to each other and parents during the parade.
- Spirit Days – We can’t wait to see all the creative ways our students show their spirit on our dress up days! See the article later in this newsletter for more details.
Enjoy the cooler weather, family time, and all the things Autumn brings!

Nurse's Nook
Welcome back to school everyone!
Immunizations & Health Assessments:
Don’t forget to turn in your child’s most up-to-date immunization records. The District deadline for immunizations is 10/3/2022
If this is the first time your child has been in a Kansas school, an updated Health Assessment (physical) is required.
Hearing/Vision Screenings:
Students will have hearing and vision screenings during the school year as required per state law. Results will ONLY be sent home if further testing is needed. Screenings are very basic and are not meant to take the place of professional evaluations.
Please feel free to stop by my office, call or email me if you have any questions or concerns about your student. Thank you all for taking an interest in your child’s health and well-being.
