Coronavirus Information
Linked below is a letter (English and Spanish) from our district nurses regarding the Coronavirus. There are currently NO confirmed cases in Placer County, this letter is just general information.
Cold/Flu Season
We've seen an increase in the number of students absent recently due to colds, flu and even strep throat. This year seems to be a bit worse than in the past so we want to give you a few reminders to help us all stay well and healthy.
If your student gets sick, it is often most appropriate to keep him/her home from school. A student who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and may spread the illness to other students and staff, especially those who have weakened immune systems.
In general, a student should remain home if he/she has:
Fever of 100 degrees or greater in the past 24 hours (We request that students to remain at home until they have been fever free without the use of medicine for 24 hours)
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Thick mucus or drainage
Bad cold, with a very runny nose or bad cough, especially if it has kept the student awake at night.
Undiagnosed rash
If your student becomes ill at school, you may be called to come and take your student home from school. Please be sure that arrangements can be made to transport your student home from school and that childcare is available in case of illness. If your daytime or emergency phone numbers change during the year, please notify the front office immediately.
These guidelines are meant to serve the best interests of all students in our schools. If you have questions or concerns please contact the school or review our illness guidelines at: http://www.wpusd.org/Parent-Resources/Health-Services/index.html
Intra and Inter District Transfers
Inter-district transfers will be accepted starting February 3rd. If you have any questions please contact the school office or go to: http://www.wpusd.org/Parent-Resources/Student-Attendance--IntraInterdistrict-Transfers/index.html for more info.
Got Rocks?
Did you know that there are many students and a teacher at Coppin that have an interest in rocks and geology? Our own Mr. Lopez (4th grade teacher) is our resident expert in rocks, history and geology and has quite a collection of rocks in his classroom. Over the years, students have come to know that they can go to Mr. Lopez's room after school to learn, explore and sometimes trade rocks. Mr. Lopez will be available for rock trading and exploration on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week, before and after school. We are hoping that designating some days for rock trading will help with plans for drop off and pick up at school. If you have specific questions about our infamous "rock trading," we encourage you to email Mrs. Coyle or Mr. Lopez directly at scoyle@wpusd.org or blopez@wpusd.org. Happy trading!

It's Raining, It's Pouring...
Morning Procedures
Also, please note as the weather changes our morning routines may change. On cold/rainy mornings we will have students wait in the cafeteria instead of the courtyard from 7:45-8:00am. We will open the playground at 8:00 as usual. On rainy days, we also have kids wait in the cafeteria until their teachers come to pick them up for class.

Parking & Drop Off
Please note that parking is at a premium, particularly now that we have so many new families who joined us this fall. If you are arriving early and waiting with your child in your car, please consider parking along the street to ensure our staff can find parking when they arrive.
Entering Campus
If you are walking your child onto campus and plan to go past the big, black gate, you must sign in at the front office and obtain a visitor badge to be on campus. Remember to sign out when you leave as well. This helps us to account for everyone that is on campus.
Food Service News
We've gotten lots of feedback from students and families regarding some changes in food services. Here is some info from our Food Service Director Christina Lawson:
A. WPUSD has started offering chocolate milk on Fridays only. Our Food Service department is really focused on bringing in lots of fruits and vegetables this year and reducing down the occurrence of items with added sugar.
B. Want to help shape the future of WPUSD food service offerings? We are looking for teachers, parents, community members that are interested in being on some panels/focus groups regarding food service selections and branding over the next year. Please reach out to Christina Lawson at clawson@wpusd.org if interested.
C. We are lucky to be able to feature lots of CA grown produce that is seasonal and fresh. All our offerings are all CA Grown at the moment including our carrots, lettuce, plums, peaches, oranges, zucchini, strawberries to name a few!
