News and Notes for December

From Mrs. Reid

The holidays are quickly approaching and South Grove staff and students are busy decorating and talking about our Servants Heart project. I am always amazed at the generosity shown by our community at this time of year. One of my favorite evenings is when I go shopping with the students to pick out gifts. The children select gifts with care and take pride in making the perfect selection.

Servants Heart

Please continue to send in monetary donations for our school wide Christmas project. Each classroom sponsors a family and helps provide gifts to families in need of some extra cheer. Mrs. Keeley shared information about this program. All donations need to be turned in by December 17th. Please email or contact your child's teacher or Mrs. Keeley ( if you would like more information.

I wanted to share with you a special note our school received in November:

Mrs. Reid my name is Scott Peper. I am the co-grocery manager at Servants Heart food pantry. I wanted to thank you for the generous amount of food your school donated to Servants Heart. We haven't weighed the food yet, but we think it is almost 2000 pounds. This is the busiest time of year for us and this will go a long to helping those in need. Your students should be proud of what they have done for those in need. Hopefully it will be a good learning experience. Thanks again.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Candy Grams Support Servants Heart

Students may purchase candy grams to send to friends or teachers. They will be on sale at lunch for 50 cents.

Parents and grandparents can also purchase candy grams by sending in money to Mrs. Keeley or by stopping in the office.

Candy grams will also be on sale during the 5th grade Christmas program on December 8th.

This helps fund the Christmas shopping for the families South Grove sponsors. Thanks for your support!

South Grove Students LOVE to Read!

Students have been working hard to reach their Accelerated Reader goals for the 2nd grading period. Many students have already DOUBLED their point goal AND have kept their quiz scores above a 90%. THAT'S AMAZING! Parents, have your student share their A.R. progress with you, or you can access their quiz scores online by going to Renaissance Home Connect. Friday, December 19, is the last day to take A.R. quizzes for the 2nd grading period. The A.R. ice cream reward will be after Christmas break.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Please consider dropping off aluminum cans and paper products to the South Grove recycle bins. By doing this your are helping to financially support our physical education program. Mrs. Newman appreciates the help as she educates students on not only living a healthy life but making healthy choices for our planet.
