Ishmeal is struggling with hunger and starvation. He is not able to get the energy he needs to survive. The rebels are coming after him and he has to do what ever he can to stay alive and protect his friends.
Past=Present
Ishmael having to go to war at a young age can relate to what is happening today. Today there are Young children that are being drafted to war and have no choice. This is happening today in countries such as: China, and some European countries.
Krio
an English-based Creole language of Sierra Leone. It is the first language of about 350,000 people and is used as a lingua franca by over 3 million.
Setting
It was summertime In Mattru Jong. It was a dry season with the grassland turning yellowish. Ishmael stayed in a dry village where food and water was scarce.
Conflict #1 (Man + Self)
Ishmael must find a way to survive and get away from the rebels. Isheal didnt ever want to go to war and have to kill someone but if that is what he must do to survive then he must do what ever he can.
Conflict #2 (Man + Self)
Ishmeal is scared and he is worried about what is going to happen to him and his friends. He doesnt know what type of rebels will come shooting and it is very hard for someone to stay calm and patient when they are at war and every thing is very serious.
