The Mangus Messenger

Dear Parents,

I don't know about you, but these last two weeks have flown by. We changed up our schedule and, unfortunately, I had my first sick day. I am so pleased to tell you that I had three fantastic reports when I got back. We were praised for efficiently conducting our routines, meeting expectations going to the ECC, and being very respectful during buddies. I am extremely proud of our students. Thank you for all of your support in making this happen.

Picture Day!

On Thursday, 2/4, we have our Spring Portraits and class picture. I will let you know if we come up with a theme.

Music Program

I would like to give a big shout out to our 6th graders that put themselves out there and supported our music program on Thursday night. It was very brave of them to share their own compositions and their passion for music.

Science Snacks

Thank you for your assistance with the Science Snack project. The students are excited about their choices and I love hearing them talk about what has gone wrong or coming in and saying, "Guess what?" Music to my ears.

All projects are due on Wed, 2/3 and the share schedule is on our Assignment Board. You can also find it on the shared Google Doc.

100th Day of School

Tomorrow, our 6th graders have chosen to create a 100th day project in the classroom. Each student has signed up to bring 50 items of their choosing (for a grade total of 600 objects...I wonder what they will come up with). These items need to be brought in tomorrow, February 2nd, and are listed in their planners.

They are also more than welcome to participate, with the other grade levels, in dressing up as if they were 100 years old. They have been given the choice because, as you know, they are growing up and this did not appeal to all of them. ;)

Paper Drive

ARPS is conducting a "Paper Drive" in hopes that we can stock up on some much needed copy paper. If you are interested in donating paper to school, please drop off any donations to the front office until February 11th. Thank you in advance!

Reading and Math Changes

In reading, Mrs. Hollis helped us make some changes to our role cards. There is now more room for each group member's voice. I've felt a positive shift already, so I am looking forward to seeing how it develops over this next cycle. Also, you may have noticed more grades in the Grade Book. We are now including every End of Cycle grade (Comprehension, Writing, and Vocabulary) instead of an average of all of them. You already get the progress reports, but I just wanted you know that you will see them in the Grade Book as well.

In math, we are working in groups that allow for more discussion, peer interaction, and the opportunity to move forward. This will allow me the time to re-teach concepts to those that need it and allows those that have it to move on.

Please keep me posted on any feedback that you may receive about these changes in the classroom.

Valentine's Day

On Thurs, 2/11, we will celebrate Valentine's Day with a classroom party from 2:00 - 3:00 pm. If your student is bringing in Valentine's, please make sure there is enough for every student in the class. More to follow...
