Progressive Muscle Relaxation
Stress can really affect us. It can lead to tense and tight muscles and...well, feeling really stressed out! The mind-body connection is powerful!
Slowly tensing (not straining) and releasing our muscles helps to relieve that stress. Also, it can be done almost anywhere, anytime. This process is called Progressive Muscle Relaxation. It can help us by relaxing our mind and body, reducing tension, focusing our minds and calming us down.
The goal is to do it daily and as often as necessary. A lot of people find it helpful at bedtime. You will quickly learn the difference between what a tense muscle feels like versus one that is completely relaxed.
Try to keep your eyes closed and imagine your muscles tensing as you are doing it.
If an area is sore, skip it.
Keep breathing normally ... do not hold your breath in.
Watch the 3 minute video below and follow along!
Reflection Activity
Did it help? Were there any areas that you did not think would be tense but were? Let us know what you think about this technique and if it is helpful.
