Whittier Weekly Newsletter
June 13, 2021
Last Week of School
We are almost there. This week, we have several loose ends to tie up - Chromebook and library book returns, celebrating our 5th graders, completing learning tasks in class, and ensuring that we have everything accounted for from this year. We are looking forward to a return to school in August for full days and weeks of learning.
I will send one more Whittier Newsletter to let you know about the summer, Back to School information for your planning, and some other information about the coming year. It will be the best one yet.
If you have not ordered a yearbook yet, please do so at the link below. There won't be another year like this one.
I know that I speak for all of our Whittier staff in expressing my deepest gratitude for your continuing support for our school. Every kind gesture, no matter how small, connects people together.
With the kindest regards,
Lorcan OhEithir, Principal

Whittier Elementary School Yearbook
Grab a yearbook as a keepsake of this most unusual of years. You won't regret it. We have intentionally delayed production in order to capture as much of this year as possible. The yearbook will be delivered later in the summer. The cost is $20.

Mrs. Coats and a group of staff have been working diligently to capture memories of the year.
They are asking families to send in pictures of their virtual learners to add to the yearbook, and don't want to leave anyone out.
Please send pictures to Leah.Coats@fcps.org. Thank you!

Media Center News from Ms. Dattoli
Did you miss the June 4th drop-off?
These things happen. Better late than never - please bring any library books by as soon as possible so Ms. Dattoli can work on the inventory.
Not sure what your child has checked out? This video will show you how to access your child's account to see the titles and covers of the books they still have checked out. Questions? Email tina.dattoli@fcps.org. Thank you!
Did you know that if your child reads at least 4 books over the summer, it will help to prevent the summer slide? To keep your child motivated to read over the summer, FCPL will launch their 2021 Summer Reading Program on June 1. (They also have programs and prizes for teens and adults!)
For more information, visit: https://www.fcpl.org/programs-events/summer-challenge
Students will also have access to ebook platforms, Capstone and Sora, found on the school library media center's website: https://education.fcps.org/whes/mediacenter. Login information to access these wonderful ebooks and audiobooks can be found at the top of this webpage. Happy reading!
