Fall Break!
Boosterthon Update and other Glow Run Info
Thank you all for helping support this year's Glow Run - this event would not have been a success without each one of you! As of Friday afternoon, our total pledges were sitting at just over $19,000, (our profit is sitting at over $13,000) which is the highest amount for ANY FunRun we've ever had at Davis!
We are going to keep pledging open for one more week, so please let your students know they can continue to ask friends and family to support them through Friday, Sept. 15. AND we've added another incentive ... if we hit $25,000 in pledges, Mr. Morgan and I are going to be duct taped to a wall! We'll be sending out information to our families about this new challenge, but wanted to let you know too!
I really want to thank those who came and helped decorate on Thursday and clean up on Friday - it made such a difference! Michelle Waterworth made awesome glow in the dark posters for us - THANK YOU for your artistic additions to the Glow Run! And to Kacie and Heather for all that they did - I don't think I could list it all and don't know what we would do without you!
If your students enjoyed the Glow Run, let them know that our Very Important Person (VIP) dance in March will be glow themed so they won't want to miss out on that!
I'll send updates on the total raised throughout the week! And Dustin and I are looking at our calendars and the weather forecast to plan our day on the roof!
Here are the class standings as of right now:
FA: Mitchell - $95.00
Kinder: Black - $1965.10
1st: Loeza - $1570.00
2nd: Grant - $2515.10
3rd: Watson - $1270.30 (Farmer is a close second at $1230.10!)
4th: Holm - $1010.00
5th: Quintero - $440.00 (with Lovern at $425.00 and Geistweidt at $405.00)
Team standings as of right now are:
FA: $150
Kinder: $3730.10
1st: $2648.00
2nd: $5440.10
3rd: $3460.50
4th: $1895.00
5th: $1550.20
Don't forget about our teacher incentives:
- 100% of students registered on mybooster.com = Starbucks gift card on us!
- Teacher with highest total raised, K-2 and 3-5, earns $100 for their classroom!
- Top team gets lunch on us!
Student-Led Conference Expectations
With conferences so early this year, there have been a few questions about student-led conferences and leadership notebooks. We haven't really talked about notebooks for our students, and there is NOT an expectation that these are ready for conferences, so please do not stress about this. If you have already set up notebooks with your class, then you are a step ahead! We will discuss leadership notebooks at our next staff meeting later this month.
The true purpose of student-led conferences is for students to take charge of their actions and choices, and to be a bigger part of their own learning. A student-led conference should be just that - STUDENT-led. For conferences, let's all agree to have our students discuss a goal they have for themselves this year. For older grades, they can talk about their STAAR scores from last year, what they're going to do to help them grow, how they're currently doing in class, etc. Lower grades may be able to articulate how they're going to become a strong reader, how they're doing in class, etc.
Feel free to visit leaderinme.com and find resources on how to set goals, or Wildly Important Goals, with your students, and download templates to use. There is also a wealth of knowledge and resources right here on campus - ask a teammate who has been here for a few years what they've used in the past, I'm sure they'd be happy to share with you!
In the DAVIS HUB, there are newly added resources for you to look at, including two options for conference forms that you can choose from to use. Please be sure to fill one out for each student and have parents sign it during your conference. You will then scan in a copy of your conference forms to your evaluator once conferences are complete. We will also provide you a class set of the Title 1 Parent Compact for parents and students to sign at conferences.
Please don't forget to turn in your conference documentation log to get credit for your Flex time. These are due by October 4.
Ultimately, we don't want this to be a source of stress and hope that this makes sense. If you have any questions, please let Rachel know.

TTESS and SLOs
You also need to go into Edugence and enter your goals for the year. If you are new to Davis, your evaluator will schedule a goal meeting with you in the next few weeks. For a clicksheet on how to enter goals, please follow this link. There is also a goal setting exemplar linked in the hub. If you need further assistance, please e-mail your evaluator directly.
There were no changes to the SLO process, so please start working on those and enter them into Edugence as well. We are a little behind on the timeline for this :)
Copier Budgets
ICYMI: New this year to all elementary campuses is a monthly copier budget. Starting September 1, each staff member has a monthly budget to use for their copies, both B&W and color, which will give each person approximately 1,154 B&W "clicks" (single copies) a month. Color "clicks" cost more. For reference, B&W copies cost $0.0065, and color copies cost $0.045 FYI if you use the color copier to make B&W copies, it still charges you as if you made color copies even if you copied in B&W.
We do not want you to read this as we are telling you not to make copies, especially with our focus on "No Tech Tuesdays", or that you are going to be forced to make copies outside of school. What we are trying to do is be more conscientious about the cost of the copies we make monthly so that we have more money to spend elsewhere instead of spending a lot on paper and copies. With the new copiers, we will have less jams which will cost us all a lot less money.
If you happen to need more copies one month, please contact Rachel, who can override the monthly allotment. We will be monitoring our monthly usage and adjusting it as needed; in fact, budgets for teachers who teach more than one section have already been adjusted. Please let Rachel know if you have any questions.
Counselor's Corner
Counseling Sign Ups
If you have not had a chance to sign up for your counseling class lesson I have a few spots open next week and if those times do not work any open slot on the Davis Dollar schedule can be used for make up times. If you do sign up on the Davis Dollar Store schedule just mark it counseling. I will send a calendar invite to you to confirm the time slot you have chosen.
Thank you to all the classes I have visited so far for being so flexible. Sometimes I am a few minutes late or have to reschedule and you all have been so kind. This is one of the many reasons I love working here.
Paw Packs
If you are new to Royse City, we have a program here to help students who might need more food over the weekend at home called Paw Packs. If you ever think you have a student who would benefit from this program just contact me and I will get you a permission slip. For those signed up this year we are still working on getting it going.
National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Information
There is a strong body of research that shows that National Board Certified Teachers outperform their peers in student achievement, time and time again. It is the single best professional development any teacher can gain because it is all about their practice and choices.
RCISD had one teacher submit all four components last spring, and four more teachers complete one component.
If you are interested, please go to Mobile Minds and search for the NBCT Learning Path for more information. Certification costs are eligible for reimbursement, and you qualify for extra TIA money if you attain certification!

Community Partner
You'll also see members of the church on campus from time to time, volunteering in classes and mentoring students. As volunteers sign up this year, we will let you know!
