Already September!!!
I loved this beach background, so peaceful! And even though it's September, it's still 100 degrees in the shade it feels like! Don't you sometimes wish you could be sitting on a beach like this? Maybe some of you were lucky enough to this weekend; I heard Galveston had blue water again!
7 Habits for Happy Kids!
During the first week, I talked about Habit 1 with you, Be Proactive. You are in charge of you! Remember the coke bottle versus the water bottle? Habit 1 is all about keeping yourself emotionally calm, and realizing you carry your weather with you wherever you go. You choose your actions, moods, and reactions. The other big part is understanding you only have control over YOU, and your ability to influence others is hugely impacted by your own attitude and decisions.
The video below is an overview for 7 Habits, for you to review the habits and think about. Then we will look at Habit 2.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind!
Let's focus on Habit 2 today. Habit 2 is one of my favorites when we think about our students, right behind Habit 1. Our students have to learn how to set meaningful goals, and learn how to work toward those goals. This is a difficult skill but has life-long impact if we can embed it into our daily thinking and teaching.
REMINDERS for the WEEK
- Shout-outs!: If you have a shout out for a staff member, email me! I will add it to the weekly news!
- Grading Session: There is a grading PD afterschool today! Should you go? If you need a refresher or need to learn how to set up your gradebook and enter grades in ESP, you should be there! :)
- T-TESS: Teachers, you can go into your Strive account and start updating your Self-Assessment and Goals for this year. Refer to the refresher given by Ms. Skinner and Ms. Wells, and ask questions as you need to from your admin, specialists, and each other. Due Date will be later this month, an email will follow later this week with more details.
- Parent Contacts: You should have contacted all your parents at least once by this point, to touch base, introduce yourself, and have a positive contact. If you haven't try to do so before Open House. :)
- Parent Contact Log: Please track all parent contacts in a log that is easily accessible. You may need it for future meetings, and it helps a lot to have it in one place you can easily copy from.
- Water/Coffee/Jeans Club: Don't forget to sign up for your annual pass to the water/coffee/jeans club! See Ms. Rose for more details!
- Snack Shack: If you are desperate for a snack, forgot to bring lunch, or need an afternoon pick-me-up, there is a cabinet located outside of Ms. Rose's office with snacks for sale! Prices are listed inside the cabinet. All proceeds get cycled back into the staff activity fund.
