The Periodic Table Two Years Later...
I popped into a 7th grade Social Studies class last Friday. During the CNN Student News, a trivia question was asked: What is the only US state with one syllable? I mentally began to recite the states when they broke out into their 1st grade state song. Amazing. They remembered each state alphabetically from learning in 1st grade. I then asked what other songs they remembered and a Math PI song unfolded. They giggled and laughed.
Up next, the periodic table...two years later. We are creating joyful life-long learners!

The Problem with Rewarding Perfect Attendance...
The health of your children and our school staff is our prime focus each year. While a great deal of time is spent on treating children with injuries or illness, a large focus is also spent on prevention. The above highlights what we have been sharing with our faculty, staff and students.
Amid the growing concerns of this season's cold/flu/virus, we have received a directive from the Superintendent of Catholic Schools to suspend the policy of awarding perfect attendance as it encourages kids to attend school when they are not feeling up to it, either physically or mentally. This reward also penalizes children who have no control over illness; yet, families make the right decision to keep children home to recover. Ultimately, attendance matters to every student, every day.
