The 4th Grade News
Week of March 9, 2015
A Note from Ms. Deal
First, let me just say, THANK YOU! You and the kids have made my week so special. It was so great to receive the small gifts and cards and flowers. I am feeling very loved.
We are so excited to host Student Led Conferences next week. The students have been working hard to prepare quality work and activities for you. When you have your conference, please be aware, that because other families will be in the room, discussing private issues with me will not be allowed. I am happy to schedule private meetings with you if you have specific concerns.
This was the last week of the session 3 ASAs. There will be no ASAs next week. ASAs will start back up after spring break.
Thank you,
Ms. Deal

Last week we started looking at different types of graphs. Students explored the different ways we can organize data. Each student collected their own data from the people in the class and recorded the information in a homemade graph.
The 4th graders are perfecting their skills for finding the mean, median, mode and range of number sets. The students even have a song to help them remember what each vocabulary word means. I have added some websites to my teacher page on the SCIS homepage. If you would like to work with your student there are some helpful websites available for practice.
Language Arts
Writing: The students are working on narrative writing. We have talked about setting, plot and main characters. The 4th graders even completed a story map to make sure their story included all of the important elements. Each Wednesday your child will have a writing assignment from me, due on Thursday.
Reading: The students continue to read in their guided reading groups. Students are working with others in the class on reading skills like comprehension and close reading. The book your child is reading is either Stone Fox, Because of Winn Dixie or Tuck Everlasting. All some of my favorite young adult texts!
