Falcon Express Update to Families
November 13, 2023
Message from Principal Higgs
Dear Falcon Families,
I hope this message finds you well. As we enter the season of gratitude and giving thanks, I would like to express my appreciation for your support and partnership in making Millennium Middle School a place of excellence in academics, arts, and athletics.
I was delighted to see so many families at the annual Midway CD5K, and I extend my gratitude to the Art department for an amazing show featuring food-themed art displays. Thank you for attending and supporting our Falcons.
We recently launched an important initiative with the Peace and Justice Institute. I am pleased to say that Millennium Middle School is now participating in the Seminole Resilient Community Project. Our first parent session focused on implementing the Principles of How We Treat Each Other when communicating with preteens and teens. If you'd like to learn more about these principles, please explore them below by clicking the "Principles of How We Treat Each Other" banner.
This week, we will recognize students who have met honor roll criteria. Students who received a 3.0 to 3.99 during Quarter 1 will receive their honor roll certificates this week. Students who received a 4.0 grade point average will be recognized in a brief gathering on Friday, November 17, 2023, in Millennium Hall at 9:45 AM. Parents of these students are welcome to attend and will receive an email invitation.
Our November School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting will occur in the media center on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 5:00 PM. We'd like to invite you to attend, as all voices matter. Additionally, we will have the Fall Dance Show on this same evening at 7:00 PM in Millennium Hall. Please have a look at the flyer within the newsletter for more information.
We will have our Fall Chorus Concert on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 7:00 PM in Millennium Hall.
As we enter this season of thanks, I encourage you to send a message of appreciation to a staff member if you feel moved by their influence on your child's schooling. Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you have a PRIDE-filled Thanksgiving week.
Honor Roll Recognition
Campus Procedure Information
Please be advised that for your child's safety, we request that drop-offs on campus should not occur before 9:05 AM. Before this time, no supervision is available, and leaving students unsupervised is considered negligent. We kindly request your cooperation in ensuring your child's safety by not leaving them unattended on campus before 9:05 AM. If you arrive early, please stay with your child until 9:05 AM, when campus supervision begins.
Also, we would like to remind you that we don't accept student drop-offs in the front office, including forgotten items such as books, homework, jackets, lunches, etc.. This policy is in place to prevent our front office staff from being overwhelmed with student items and to ensure the safe and timely delivery of these items to the students. Please help us maintain an efficient system by adhering to this policy.
Campus Events & Activities
Partner With Us - We are Millennium
Additionally, we are looking for members to join the School Advisory Council (SAC). This group represents the school, the community, and those closest to the students. SAC is crucial in preparing and evaluating the school improvement plan (SIP). We would love for you to join us as a SAC member, and our next meeting will be held on November 14, 2023, at 5:00 PM in the media center.
Parental Authorization Form - Cross Country🏃♂️🏃♀️
SCPS has developed a plan to adhere to the requirements set forth by the Florida Department of Education’s Board Rule 6A-10.089, Section (5) which requires parent or guardian notification and permission forms for all school-sponsored events, activities, and supplemental programs. Over the next few days, weeks, and months, teachers, sponsors, and administrators will be sending notification and permission forms for any school-sponsored events, activities, or supplemental programs your child plans to attend. Please keep your eye out for these forms so that your child is able to participate.
No Cost Eye Exams
We want our students to excel like Falcons and have sharp eyesight like them too! The Florida Heiken Children's Vision Program offers comprehensive eye exams and glasses, free of charge, for eligible students. This program is available at no cost to you. If you believe that your child could benefit from this service, please complete the application before Thanksgiving (11/23/23). Ms. Neal, the school social worker, will be happy to help you fill out the application if necessary. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me her firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 407-320-2286.
COMMUNITY BUSINESS PARTNER OF THE WEEK
I wanted to share a big thank you with everyone for the tremendous support we received from Correy Peters and the team at Target Casselberry #0898. Their generous donation of Target gift cards and much-needed school supplies has been a huge help for Millennium Middle School and our community. We are grateful for their support in recognizing our Teachers of the Month and providing essential supplies to our students. Thank you once again, Correy and the Target Casselberry team. We can't wait to distribute these supplies to those who need them.
