Prairie Center Elementary
Last Week Before Winter Break
Oh...the joy of being in an elementary school the week prior to Winter Break! Next week will be our last week of school before our break. In my opinion, there is no better place to be. The students and staff are excited...parents are ready to have their children home with them for 2 weeks, but with all of the excitement comes anxiousness for some of our little friends. We see this at school and I am sure that you see it at home as we get closer to the break. We work to stick to the routines of the school day (as hard as it is) so that we can provide some consistency when things get a little nutty but I think that the following it is always something to keep in mind as we continue to the holiday season.
7 ways to relieve holiday stress in our children if you see that they are struggling:
- Stick to routines. We know things are crazy
- Give a heads up. Once you've figured out the family's plan for the day, provide your child with a schedule
- Schedule in downtime
- Let your child vent
- Work up a sweat
- Just say "no"
- Keep yourself in check
Easy right? :) I know that it is a struggle in my home with the boys during this time of year, but it is always good to keep these things in mind! Thank you for all you do to come alongside us to help your child! I hope that this winter break brings you joy, relaxation, and a time to recharge your batteries before school starts back up in January. There will not be a PC Pioneer Times on the 17th.
Enjoy every moment that you have with your family over the holidays!

Let's Spread a Little More Spirit During this Season!
Pennies for Shoes
Each year schools throughout the Olathe School District join with the Olathe Mayor to raise funds (through the collection of coins) in support of children and families in need here in our local community. These efforts originated years ago when the late “Mayor Mike”, Mike Copeland, started the “Pennies for Shoes” campaign.
Once again this year we are asking our students at Prairie Center to bring their pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to contribute to our efforts to support this cause. Students will be collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars for this cause throughout the week in the morning during drop off. Thanks for contributing!

Lost and Found
With the changes in the weather, we are seeing more and more coats, hats, and gloves added to our "Lost and Found” that is located in the in the back hallway by the recess doors. Please feel free to have your child check there if you think that you are missing something. Please help us by making sure that your child’s name is in the coat that they wear to school so that we can get it back to the rightful owner.
