What is ALS/Lou Gehrig's?

ALS or Lou Gehrig's is a disease that your muscles weaken and you cant do much of anything. The processes is very slow and sadly negative. You get worse as you go. Usually when you get Lou Gehrig's you only live 3-5 more years. I have personal experience with my mom and she has lived 7 years with ALS. My dad has a friend that has lived 13 years with it.

Martin Charcot

"ALS was first found in 1869 by French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, but it wasn’t until 1939 that Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease. Ending the career of one of the most beloved baseball players of all time, the disease is still most closely associated with his name. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed." Information found at.....

What you need

For one thing you need to be prepared. You can not go through ALS without the proper equipment. Some things you will need is a wheel chair, a care taker, a one story house (optional), things for the person with Lou Gehrig's to do, and lastly a positive attitude around the house. For one thing you need somebody to lift their spirits don't you? Not being able to do much of anything can be sad and depressing. So be that person to lift their equipment is necessary.
