Focous question: What is the important of the Sphinx. The Sphinx of Giza is standing tall and proud to this day.It is important to both Anicent Egyptians and the world.
How they built it
Its construction was very advanced for that era. The Sphinx was built out of limestone bedrock wich came from quarries across the Nile. Two hundred men and some camels were needed to transport the large blocks to the building site. Camels were used large barges (a very big ute type thing) to carry blocks on.
In honour of Pharaoh Khufu
The Sphinx is important because it was built in honour of pharaoh Khufu.It was built five thousand years ago.The head faces east,looking at the rising sun. It guards the end of Khufu Valley protecting the great pyramid of Giza. It took twenty years to build and it is the first way that a pharaoh had been represented by a lion's body and a human's head.
Interesting Facts
The Sphinx used to have a beard but that fell of. Its nose was deliberately destroyed in the 1400s by a man by the name of Sam-El-Dahr. It was carved by hand. The Sphinx was neck high in the sand from sad storms. The whole staute was found in 1925. It has been reconstructed seven times and is a very, very famous tourist attraction in the world. It is also the largest staute in the world. The lion's body represents royalty and the sun god "Atum" (the solar god).
