Keeping Learners from Wandering on an iDevice

Ever have a learner exit out of the app you need to have ready to go for a station? Ever come across a learner enjoying Grumpy Cat videos on YouTube when they are supposed to be using Sock Puppets to record their fluency?

Guided Access can be your new BFF. Guided Access is a setting on iPads and iTouches that allows an educator or parent the ability to "lock in" an app. No more wandering the web during Daily 5!

Click on the video below to see how to enable and disable Guided Access on an iTouch or iPad:

How To Enable Guided Access On iPhone or iPad

Pop! Pop! Pop Ups!

While learners are using apps, they may encounter different pop ups that have a direct effect on the iPad Settings. Here is a quick cheat sheet you can post and share with your learners:

  • "_____" app would like to send you Push Notifications - NO
  • "_____" app would like to access your Camera Roll - YES
  • "_____" app would like to use your location - Usually select YES, but use discretion
  • This iPad has not been backed up in ____weeks... - CANCEL
  • Software update ____.__ is available - DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL
  • "____" is waiting to be installed - INSTALL
