First Day of School
Exact details of that day will be coming as we consult with local health officials throughout the summer and into the fall.
Kindergarten Flexible Start
We are excited to try something new in our kindergarten kick off for the 2020-21 school year. The first week of school will have flexible class placements for kindergarten students. Students will spend some time working with both kindergarten teachers and get to know all the kindergarten classmates before we establish our class lists.
The biggest benefit to the flexible start is having time to create classrooms that are truly balanced. This is our opportunity to create classes that have a balanced mix of academic, social and behavioral needs. Students will be able to work with both kindergarten teachers and classmates while we administer our beginning-of-the-year assessments and get to know each child’s individual personalities. Students will learn to work with caring adults and gain a better knowledge of their kindergarten peers before settling into their final classroom community.
We are so excited to welcome your child into our Rockwell Kindergarten community.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the school day hours?
A: The school day starts at 8:30am Monday-Friday. The school day ends at 3:45 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 2:15 on Wednesdays.
Q: What if I am unable to pick up my child on time?
A: Teachers have meetings and school sponsored clubs after school. Please make sure you have made arrangements for your child to be picked up at dismissal.
Q: My child is a picky eater and I'm concerned he/she won't eat lunch at school. What do you suggest?
A: Send your child to school with a home lunch full of his/her favorites to ensure your child is eating a nutritious meal.
Q: What can I do to prepare my child for Kindergarten success?
A: Socially: Give your child plenty of opportunities to socialize with other children.
Organize games to practice taking turns, using manners, eye contact, etc.
Give your child opportunities to be responsible and do things on his/her own (ex: make the bed, set the table, use the bathroom, zip a coat, tie shoes, etc).
Academically: Read to your child daily. Practice proper pencil grip and writing his/her name. Practice identifying upper/lowercase letters and the sounds of those letters. Practice identifying and writing numbers 1-20.
Q: What is the lunch time schedule?
A: Kindergartners go to recess at 11:25 and then to lunch at 11:45. Parents are welcome to come have lunch with their child. If you are ordering school lunch, please call the office by 9:30am. You can bring lunch in for your child. If anyone besides the parents would like to have lunch with your child, the school will require parent approval. These times are subject to change as we go into the new school year.
Q: What are the dismissal routines and procedures for Kindergartners?
A: If your child is in Kids Network, he/she will be escorted there by a Kids Network employee every day about 2 minutes before dismissal. The rest of the Kindergarten students will be dismissed at the computer lab door (door number??). Students will remain with their teacher until they have left with a parent/guardian/sibling or have gotten on their daycare van.
Q: How can I help in the classroom?
A: There are many ways to help out in the classroom and at school. Be on the lookout for a volunteer form when the school year starts.
