Mission
It is the mission of Beloit Learning Academy to work together as a family to instill safety, responsibility, and hope in both students and staff. By creating a caring and safe environment, we will support cognitive and emotional growth and foster a love of learning.
Vision
- To know our students well
- To identify barriers to student learning
- To work as a team to remediate those barriers
- To engage and/or re-engage our students with learning
YOUTH RISK BEHAVIOR SURVEY (YRBS)
Students in grades 7, 9, and 11 will participate in a survey later this week in Life Skills. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) will ask your student about the following: safety concerns, school culture and climate, tobacco/alcohol/other drug use, stress, and mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and suicide.
The district uses the data to create and implement resources and procedures to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
If you do not want your child to participate, we must have a passive consent form signed. Please call our office at 361-4305 for a form. If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Sam Wellnitz at 361-3143 or swellnitz@sdb.k12.wi.us.

Visiting and Volunteering at BLA
SAFETY AND SECURITY
The safety, security, and well-being of our students, families, and staff is our number one priority.
In 2020, the School District of Beloit began using the Raptor Visitor Management System. The Raptor system allows us to better monitor visitors, contractors, and volunteers who enter our schools. Upon entering any district building or school, all visitors will be required to sign in and present a picture ID. Acceptable IDs include, state-issued IDs such as a driver's license, a passport, or a consular card. The ID will be scanned into the Raptor software system.
This security protocol follows Board Policy 860, Rule 1 that states, "any person other than a student or district employee is regarded as a visitor" and must report to the building's main office for authorization before going anywhere in the school building.
VOLUNTEERING WITH SDB
The School District of Beloit embraces and values the work and commitment of our volunteers. In the 2021-2022 school year we had more than 600 volunteers provide support in our schools and classrooms, tutor and read with our students, provide engaging presentations, chaperone field trips, and so much more. Please call Mrs. Hunt at 361-4305 if you are interested in volunteering at BLA.
If you applied and were approved to volunteer for the 2021-2022 school year, your approved volunteer application will continue to be valid for two additional school years. You will not have to re-apply until the 2024-2025 School Year.
If you are currently not approved to volunteer, make sure to visit our volunteer website to learn about how to become a SDB Volunteer and fill out our Online Volunteer Application.
