PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
“You may think your light is small, but it can make a huge difference in other people’s lives.” – Anonymous
I recently read that after January 11th, the increase of daylight accelerates to two minutes a day and by mid-February we gain an additional three minutes a day of sunlight. For many, these additional minutes and seconds of daylight have a profound impact on mood, attitude and outlook. Similarly, extending positive energy and "light" to others has the same impact.
As a building, we value educating the whole child, focusing our instruction on developmentally appropriate practices and social and emotional learning opportunities in order to provide our students with the best learning experience possible. Just as we encourage our students to reach their highest academic potential, we also encourage our students to be their personal best socially and emotionally.
February is National Random Acts of Kindness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to reinforce compassion, kindness, respect and empathy in our students. During the month of February, I challenge our students to deliberately attempt to brighten someone else’s day!
There are so many ways for students to demonstrate Random Acts of Kindness! Below are just a few ideas.
- Talk to someone new at school.
- Donate soup cans to our "Souper Bowl" event (see below for more details).
- Make a thank you card for your favorite teacher.
- Smile!
Ask your child, "How can you be a light in someone's day?"
Explore. Dream. Discover.

CLOTHING REMINDER
Attention Families of Kindergarten, 1st , and 2nd Grade Students
Students are required to keep a complete change of clothing (shirt, pants, underwear and socks) in their book bags at all times. There are many reasons for students needing to change clothing outside of having bathroom accidents. Some examples would be spilling their water bottle, food, milk, glue or paint onto their clothing or getting into mud and rain puddles on the playground. The nurse’s office is very limited on the sizes available for students to change into. Students also feel more comfortable in their own clothing instead of borrowed clothing.
Please make sure that the clothing is appropriate for the season.
To All Families
If your child has borrowed clothing from the health room, please wash and return the items immediately so that others may use them if needed. Look for notices in your child’s take home folders or book bag if they have borrowed clothing and have not returned it.
WELCOME, MRS. KING!
Hello! My name is Kelly King and I joined the Bermudian Springs Elementary School staff as a Kindergarten Aide. I am a former Bermudian graduate and have 4 children that are also Bermudian graduates. I currently have 6 grandchildren that attend Bermudian and I enjoy getting to see them occasionally throughout the day. I enjoy spending time outside with my family.

IS YOUR CHILD SICK?
- Children who have a fever today should not be in school tomorrow. Children should be fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medications for a minimum of 24 hours prior to returning to school.
- Children requiring fever-reducing medications (Tylenol, Motrin, etc) in the morning to assist in getting through the day should not be in school that day.
VOMITING/DIARRHEA
- Children who are vomiting and/or have diarrhea today should not be in school tomorrow.
OVERNIGHT ILLNESS
- Children who wake up during the night with a fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea or a cough that has kept them up throughout the night should not be in school today.
LET'S DO OUR PART
- We all have a responsibility to minimize the spread of illness. Please do not send children who are sick, still recovering from illness, or feverish to school, where the likelihood of spreading the illness is greater.
PLAYING OUTSIDE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS
Kids love to play outside in the snow and ice, but they are more vulnerable to cold weather than adults are. Most kids do not notice changes in their bodies related to cold exposure.
Frostbite and hypothermia occur more frequently in children because they have larger heads and large body surface area compared to their body mass, and this leads to rapid heat loss. Younger children usually do not have as much energy reserves to burn when it comes to being in cold.
Here are tips to ensure that children are safe while playing outside during the winter months:
Vulnerable extremities, such as the ears, nose, hands and feet, should always be covered and kept as warm as possible to avoid frostbite.
Make sure children wear a hat, which is key to retaining up to 60 percent of their body heat.
Children should dress in layers so moisture can be kept away from the skin. Wet layers should be taken off so children stay warm and dry.
