Hawthorne Artists with Ms. Mancini
In Kindergarten and 1st grade, students were introduced to the artisitic element of Line. We learned about different types of lines found in artwork (horizontal, vertical, curved, zig-zag, etc). Students were provided with drawing exercises where they explored and created different types of lines using paint sticks, oil pastels, makers, and pencil.
In 2nd grade, students learned about feelings and how colors represent emotions. We began discussing the concept of planning and how it helps artists achieve their desired outcomes. Students brainstormed their ideas and planned their own artwork before starting the actual creation process. We will continue to encourage our artists to embrace mistakes as learning opportunities and provide them with examples of techniques they can use to transform mistakes into intentional artistic choices.
Our second graders volunteered to work with the members of our Board of Education this past Wednesday night at the BOE meeting. Ms. Aboulenein led the teams in the design and engineering of dot towers as a way to show our appreciation for all of the work our board members have done to support the creation of our STEM program at HES.
Ms. MacCullough's Pumpkin Challenge
October Pumpkin Character Challenge
Are you ready for some October pumpkin fun?
1) Select a book you have read or want to read.
2) Choose one character from the story to focus on.
3) Create this character using a pumpkin. Please be sure the pumpkin is small enough to carry to school. You may decorate it, glue things on it, carve it, or paint it! Be creative!
4) Please write your name and teacher’s name on the bottom of your pumpkin (preferably in Sharpie) and bring your pumpkin to the HES Library for display!
5) Please bring your pumpkins in between October 18th-31st. Email email@example.com with any questions.
Important things to remember:
Everyone who participates will get a certificate, but no prizes will be awarded.
Unfortunately, due to the number of pumpkins we receive and due to the fact that some of them start to decompose, we can’t return the pumpkins to their owners.
You may bring in your pumpkin anytime between October 18th and the 31st! They will be displayed in the library.
Hawthorne Halloween Parade
Our Hawthorne Halloween parade will be held on Tuesday, October 31st at 9:00 a.m. We will be sending home wristbands for the parade. Please have every adult who is attending wear a wristband. Parking will be available in the Holy Rosary lot. Please proceed through the back gates at Holy Rosary and HES to the playground field. We ask that you line up on the perimeter of the playground field. Please note, if we have inclement weather, this will be an indoor event for students only.
Please note, all attendance events (sick, late, early dismissal, etc.) must be entered into School Dismissal Manager on a daily basis.
Lost & Found
Our lost and found area in the cafeteria is filling up with sweatshirts. Please email our greeter, Ms. Vanessa at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are looking for an item. Please include a description of the item, your child's name and classroom teacher.
