I Make a Difference
I would like to pass the I Make A Difference award to Elise Neubeck.
She is a teacher who is patient, compassionate and caring about her
students' well being at school and when they are at home. Elise is
patient with her teacher assistant (me) and very thorough when
teaching me the operation of the Promethian board and helping me
find her classroom files on the computer. She is very organized and
it is easy to see how much she enjoys her job when reading a story to
her entire class or working individually with a student. After school
she plays on the Trantwood Volleyball team and helps coach Girls On
the Run. Elise does all this, makes a difference and still retains her
bubbly friendly personality. Yes Miss Elise, you do make a difference
at Trantwood and to your students. Pam Jacobs

Report Card Comments:
Much thought should be given when creating report card comments. It is essential that we provide specific feedback and suggestions/opportunities for improvement in the report card comments. Statements included should be meaningful, positive, and accurate, yet tactful. Begin with something positive and include achievements earned by the student.
*As a reminder, if a student is at risk of retention due to grades,
*As a reminder, Mrs. Metzger and Mrs. Lewis will be checking all 543 report card comments. Please take your time to edit your own comments and then swap comments with a colleague to check before submitting them to Carolyne. The final copy will be submitted to Administration for review and there shouldn’t need to be any final edits.
Homeroom teachers, please do not transfer grades until after all specialist grades are added. Otherwise, you will not capture Specialists grades and comments on your report cards.
Technology Corner
Please remember to shut down your laptop when you move from school to home, or even school to school, as not shutting down can cause connectivity issues with network resources, including printers, the I and L drives, and your H drive.
SPECIAL EDUCATION ENDORSEMENT INITIATIVE
Teachers Reaching Youths Intervention Training (T.R.Y.I.T.) is a field-based endorsement program for teacher assistants with a bachelor’s degree and general education teachers in the school division. This collaborative initiative between Old Dominion University (ODU) and Virginia Beach City Public Schools utilizes a cohort design for teacher assistants and general educators interested in earning a General Curriculum K-12 Special Education endorsement. The instructional focus is on best practices and strategic integration for students identified with high incidence disabilities.
Due to the tremendous success of this initiative, another cohort is planned for the upcoming school year. Depending on the availability of funds, it is anticipated that the new cohort will begin in August. Teacher assistants and general educators interested in this training opportunity can learn more about the endorsement program by attending one of the meetings at the Virginia Beach Higher Education Center, Room 242, Tuesday, April 24, or Thursday, May 10, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Parking will be permissible in Lot 3. Attendees will be provided specific information about the program requirements, and staff from ODU will be available to answer questions. Additionally, teachers from the current T.R.Y.I.T. cohort will be present to share information about their experiences.
I encourage teacher assistants and general educators to consider T.R.Y.I.T., an opportunity for professional growth and enrichment. If there any questions regarding this memorandum, please contact Dr. Veleka Gatling, executive director, at 263-2400 or via email at veleka.gatling@vbschools.com. Thank you.
Green Ambassadors helping us to stay out of limbo!
So stink'n cute!
Teacher: Who can choose a 4 color pattern and what would we call that pattern? Student: That would be an abcd pattern! (PK is on fire!)
