This year, Meadows will focus on teaching our students to have a "Growth Mindset" (Dweck, 2015). Here is a great video on the "Power of Yet". School Safety
Safety is our number one priority. Do you have a plan for safety at home? What would you do in case of an emergency? Emergency preparedness is a priority for Meadows Elementary School. Our Superintendent, Jeff Pelzel and Director of School Safety, Tim Palmer ask each of our schools to ensure we practice our emergency response procedures. Every month, we practice our response during an emergency drill which can include a fire, lock-down, and earthquake drill.
The goals of each of our drills is to increase our ability to protect students, save lives and reduce injuries. By practicing emergency drills, we can evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve upon our response.
In order to protect students, in case of a real emergency, students will only be released to the parents/ guardians listed on the students’ Emergency Card. Please ensure that the card is updated with accurate information. It is a good suggestion to ensure you have several trusted adults listed on this card, including family and friends in walking distance of the school. In an actual emergency, we may not have access to telephone communication. In an actual emergency, we work directly with the the Santa Clarita Sheriff and Fire Departments. A reunification plan is decided by the fire or police department. In an actual emergency, the contact person will need to bring identification to request a student for pick up.
Please discuss your family’s home safety preparedness plan with your child. The American Red Cross is an excellent resource for materials. You can obtain these materials in many language on their website: http://www.redcross.org
Please reach out to us with any questions.
