Counselor's Corner
A Message From Mrs. Jordan Smith
Happy New Year!
I hope 2020 has treated you well so far! I have several updates from the Counseling department at PUE and wanted to take a moment to fill you all in on all of the happenings! I have completed almost 20 intro lessons in classrooms so that students know who I am, how I can support them, and the referral process for meeting with me. I have several more intro lessons scheduled throughout this month.
I have over 40 lessons scheduled throughout January in K-5 classes that are all based around Social Emotional Learning. K-1 lessons are about Kindness, 2nd grade lessons are about Emotions and Finding Calm, and 3-5 lessons are about Emotions and Coping Skills. These SEL lessons will continue throughout February.
I have created a calendar for classroom lessons for the rest of the school year and will publish this soon. I am holding several Lunch Bunch groups - various topics including new to school and friendships- and will begin holding several Small Groups at the end of January. If your child has experienced loss, divorce/family transitions, friendship/social skills needs, study skills concerns, or anything else that may be covered in a small group, please reach out so we can discuss further! I love to include as many students as possible in small groups! jsmith39@wcpss.net
K-Kids for 4th and 5th grade will be meeting for the first meeting of 2020 on Tuesday, January 14th at 3:00PM in the cafeteria. We are hoping to have our first Counselor Coffee Chat meeting in February.
If you have a concern about your child or have any ideas for Counselor Coffee Chats - or any other questions or concerns, please fill out this survey https://forms.gle/kQ18sPc7hYWsezVt5 or email me!
Thanks and have a great week!!
