Notes for Teachers and Staff
11/5/18
Preschool Fair
We had a total of 8 families make their way to our table; mostly Stepping Stone aged families. The few Children's House prospective families had actually already made contact with the school previously and just stopped by to say hello!
Thank you to the teachers who lent me some of your classroom materials! Our table looked quite impressive especially compared to the other stands. I will plan to have more photos displayed next time.
It was rather funny when one toddler who had spent quite a bit of time with me then moved on to a traditional Preschool table where there were toys-trucks and vehicles. Even though, he was enjoying those toys he kept bringing them back to our stand! This was really irritating the representatives of the other school!
Unfortunately, many of the these families won't be able to attend our Open House, but will hopefully schedule a tour asap!
Open House- Tuesday, November 6th, from 9:30-11:30 am.
Natalie, Nikohl and I will be available to take families into the classrooms. We will do our best to stay with families the entire time. I have a feeling that there will be more Stepping Stones aged children. We will do our best to have only one family in your classroom at a time.
Thank you very much for being flexible! I know that it isn't easy to have families and children touring during your morning work cycle. The Board thought it could be a nice opportunity for families to see what that morning work cycle represents. You are all doing such a lovely job in your classrooms; families will pleased!
Our new Head of School, Jennifer Fuginni will do her best to attend our first Open House of the 18/19 school year.
Half Day Afternoon Program
The goal of this program is to bring in new enrollments from families that have expressed a need for an afternoon program. We will keep you updated when we are ready to open the class. Miss Nicole will be starting up the program in her classroom. Our hope is that some of Miss Nicole's morning students will extend their day as well.
Nurse
This week Nurse Mani will be at the School on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
Nurse Janene will be with us on Wednesday and Friday.
Just a reminder that attendance and the daily Health Check should be done by 9:15 am. Please put your attendance in the door by then for the nurse to collect. Thank you!

Thanksgiving Feast/ Friendship Soup/ Tuesday, October 20th.
Declan preparing carrots for the soup.
Festive headdress
Feast
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is around the corner! NSMS will be making a delicious Friendship Soup to share on 11/20. In order to prepare for the soup we will ask each classroom to prepare an ingredient. I have spoken to all Lead Teachers about the soup but I am drawing a blank as far as ingredients you will prepare with your classes. Lead teachers please email me asap which vegetables/ingredients you will contribute to the soup.
This is what I recall:
Mrs. Thomas- celery (about 3 bags) & Pumpkin Bread
Miss Joanna- Vegetable Broth (18, 1 quart cartons)
Miss Nicole- Creative Arts- Pumpkin Bread
Miss Nicole-beans
Miss Stefanie -carrots
Suggestions:
carrots
gluten free pasta or rice or potatoes
green beans
Please reach out to your class parents to get the vegetable (for your class), broth or ingredients for the pumpkin bread.
Additional Supplies Parents provide for each class:
*In the past, teachers either assigned a snack parent or asked the class parent to organize for the class:
Please ask the families donating the below items to provide enough for 20 people:
- small white paper plates
- hot cups for soup – no styrofoam
- spoons
- napkins
- small water bottles (pop-up, sippy, 6-8 fl oz size)
Please ask them to bring in paper goods no later than Friday, November 16th. Thank you!
Center pieces and festive headdress/hat/necklace
Please feel free to make a decorative headdress or necklace to wear to the feast if you like. If you would also like to make centerpieces for the tables this could be super festive as well.
Report Cards/ Conferences
Mr. Zak will be working both afternoons in the gym to watch children whose parents are conferencing. As conferences last about 15 minutes, children will only remain in the gym for a short amount of time.
Assistant Teachers will stay in their classrooms during conferences. Leads make sure you have a To -Do List for your assistants (cleaning shelves, materials, create materials etc).
Report Cards will be photocopied and distributed by the end of the week. You will have 3 weekends to complete them. For new teachers, there will be 2-3 pages of which you will have to tick lessons children were introduced to, are still working on or mastered. Then there is a comments section. I am asking that you type up your comments in a shared google document with me. We will review together and then the office will print, then return to you so that you can attach to the report card. Report cards will be due by Monday, 11/26/18.
Mr. Zak we will go over your report cards when you return back to school.
Barnes and Noble Night-Wednesday, November 14th, 6-8 pm.

A reminder from Justin our Cleaner
A message for Mr. Zak/Hazel: Equipment must be moved off the mats after creative movement so that Justin can wipe down gym mats. Every Friday, floor mats also need to be put away so Justin can clean the floor in that area. Thank you for your help!
Please have all window sills clear on Fridays so that Justin can dust.
