Welcome Back Students and Families!
Greetings JES families! I would like to take this opportunity to say hello and welcome again to Johnson Elementary. We are excited to have had a great start to the school year. Our students have settled in to their classrooms and we see wonderful learning taking place all over the school. Please remember that students need to be here at school and in their classrooms ready to learn promptly at 8:30 am.
There are lots of ways to stay informed of JES happenings! We have many fun events planned throughout the school year and we want you to be informed. We use ConnectEd calls, we have a Facebook page that you can search for Johnson Elementary and then LIKE us to get updates, and you can also follow us on Twitter. You can also check the Franklin Special School District website (www.fssd.org) and click on the Johnson Elementary Page to get more calendar information.
If you ever have questions or concerns about your child’s experience at JES, we always encourage you to start by speaking with the teacher. If that does not resolve the situation, our administration always has an open door policy for your ideas and concerns. We are so glad to have everyone here at Johnson and look forward to another year of excellence in learning and growth of the children here at JES!
Respectfully,
Tosha Robinson Baugh, Principal &
Ashley McCoy, Assistant Principal

From the Attendance Office
Please be sure that all notes from Doctors and notes from parents to explain absences MUST be turned in within 7 days of an absence or they cannot be attached in the computer system to the absence. The computer system will not allow changing of information past that 7 day window. Notes must also include the following information:
· Student’s full name
· Date of student absence
· Teacher’s name
Please don’t forget to carefully monitor the number of absences and tardies your child has throughout the year. Here are the highlights, but more detailed information can be found on the FSSD website and sent home in folders at the Meet & greet at the beginning of the year or, if you missed Meet & Greet, the folders were sent home from your child’s teacher. You can refer to the FSSD Truancy Tier Procedures and the JES Parent Handbook. If you have questions, please call the school office.
Truancy Tier Procedures Highlights:
· 3 unexcused absences - Attendance Secretary
Call to home-recorded message information
· Tier 1: 5 unexcused absences - School Administrator and Attendance Secretary
Attendance Contract meeting set up through call and letter communication between parents, administrator and attendance secretary.
· Tier 2: 8 unexcused absences - School Counselor and Attendance Secretary
Letter sent to home-8 absences. School Counselor/Parent Liaison conducts individual assessment and provides documentation to both administration, Attendance supervisor, and Student Support Services Supervisor, as needed.
· Tier 3: 10 unexcused absences - Attendance Supervisor
Attendance Supervisor will determine next steps based on pertinent information.
A note from MAC Extended Care
Wow! School has started again. We hope everyone had a safe and wonderful summer. We would like to welcome back our amazing staff from last year, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Margie, Ms. Cheryl, and Ms. Starkweather.
Homework will be Monday-Thursday, 4:00-5:00. Please remember to bring a pencil. We have a homework contract available for those students who may need encouragement. You can find that information on the MAC table.
We serve a daily snack. Please pick up your snack calendar. You may also send a snack with your child if they would rather not have the snack we serve. We also serve supper daily. The menu is on the MAC table. Supper is optional and your child does not have to eat.
*Please remember to pay each Friday for your child’ attendance for the upcoming week. All MAC payments are due by Friday at 6 PM to avoid the $10 late fee.
Enrichment classes are starting in September. Please see the sign-up sheet in the MAC room.
JES MAC Staff
Special Kudos!
We would like to say a special thank you to Amanda Lyddane (mom to Hayden in 4thgrade) and Holly Spain (mom to Garner in 3rd, Sophie in 2nd, and Whitfield in K) for volunteering to be in charge of the JES PTO this year! Amanda and Holly have already done great things by heading up the PTO donation drive and kicked it off by volunteering their time at the Meet & Greet handing out popcorn as they met parents and families, as well as attending each of the grade level Parent Info nights so JES families could get PTO information. We appreciate how you have made families feel welcome and connected to other JES families. We are especially excited about some of the new events you have planned for this year! The JES Tiger Bash coming up in a couple of weeks is going to be so much fun!
