Cloverdale Elementary News
Week of October 19, 2020
Principal's Den
I hope your families are doing well and staying safe. We miss you all very much and can't wait to have you back on campus safely. You may have heard the news that our district has declared that we will remain on distance learning through January 22nd. There is a lot of activity in preparation as a result of this announcement. Please make sure to listen to the messages from our superintendent, follow our newsletter, and download our Cloverdale Elementary App for the latest information.
Shoutout to Andres Zuniga from Ms. Stewart's class for being selected as our Shining Brighter student of the week last week. Our students are outstanding and there were many that were nominated by their teachers for this special recognition and I will continue to recognize them during our morning announcements.
Congratulations to Ms. Bates for being selected as one of our district's STAR teachers of the week. We have the best teachers here at Cloverdale.
This Wednesday is Unity Day and I encourage you all to wear orange. I'm looking forward to seeing you in your zoom classes representing unity.
We are nearing the end of the first trimester on October 30th. October 30th is a minimum day. We will not have instruction after 12pm. The Kindergarten afternoon group will meet in the morning on the 30th.
Thank you,
At Cloverdale we strive to be Leaders by Example. As I mention to our students during announcements, this means that we always try to do the right thing even when no one is looking.
As part of our school's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS), we also learn to ROAR. This is a matrix that exemplifies our core values of being Respectful, Organized, Accountable, and Responsible.
We also know that a FAIL is only a First Attempt in Learning and that we learn best from our mistakes. When someone makes a mistake we say "It's Cool!"
Sincerely,
Genaro García

School Focuses Of The Week
AVID
AVID Goal Focus: Planner
Students in grades third – fifth should refer to their planner daily.
Students are encouraged to write down what they are learning for each subject each day or week and develop 2 weekly academic short term goals.
Parents please use the planner as a way to discuss your child’s learning with them.
SEL Focus Of The Week
Tk-2nd Grade Understanding Stereotypes About People
A stereotype means thinking that everyone in a group is the same.
You have to get to know people to understand what they are really like.
Overgeneralizing words to avoid: All, every, none, always, never, only.
Stereotypes are unfair and they are not true about all people.
3rd-5th Grade Communication-Bloopers Vs. Boosters
Communication Bloopers (Interrupting and Ignoring) can prevent us from working successfully with one another.
Everybody “bloops.”
Being aware of Communication Bloopers allows us to catch and stop ourselves before we bloop.
Practicing and implementing Communication Boosters (listening and supporting) can help us have more positive group work experiences.
