COVID-19 & College Info for Seniors
EHS Senior College Newsletter - March 18, 2020
Here for you <3
It has only been 3 school days since I last chatted with many of you in the Senior Lounge, Honor Society Table, or Commons, but DANG - I MISS YOU ALL!
This is an unprecedented time in our nation and it seems like the number of questions keep growing much faster than the number of answers anyone has. I want you ALL to know that I have your back and will be sending short snippets of information your way every now and then to make sure you are feeling as up-to-date, informed, calm, and in control of your futures.
Please, fire away ANY questions you have, related to what to do about accepting college admission offers, upcoming events, or what I think about Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott being *officially* back together. Or, just reach out and we can talk through whatever your current situation is.... I'll be around via Google HangOuts and Email - all day every day :-)
Love,
Mrs Ladell

The COVID College Choice: How To Pick A College During A Global Pandemic
In summary, keep the following in mind:
CREATIVITY: Where you may have planned to go on a final in-person visit, explore virtual options, send emails, look at local news and school newsletters for "local" info. Pay attention to how potential schools are responding to the coronavirus and supporting current students.
OPENNESS: Ask tough questions and seek transparency: what do you need to make your decision? Explore deeper, and ask things like "what's an example of a way you supported a student get an internship?" "what are some of of the specific events you have to promote volunteerism, commitment to faith development, support for students during finals?"
VARIETY: Seek out multiple sources and voices. Use social media to connect with current and other prospective students. CollegeConfidential.com is a message board that anyone can post their feedback/opinions on schools (digest this info with a grain of salt - it's unfiltered and may not always be representative of the school.)
INTENTION: What do you WANT out of college? What experiences do you hope to have? What is your GOAL? Make sure you are focusing on what matters to YOU vs. external or irrelevant variables in a school choice.
DELIGHT: If you're choosing between multiple acceptances, be grateful that you get to do this! Resist the feelings of anxiety and keep things in perspective - you have done a lot of research and reflection and have multiple GREAT options!
1 to 9: Ignore flawed rankings such as US News & World Report, and develop your OWN rankings for the schools on your list. Use a scale of 1 (significantly lacking) and 9 (ideal FOR YOU) based on categories that are important to YOU, such as - support, affordability, outcomes, engagement, community life, equity/diversity, and what your HEART is telling you.
FINALLY, Remember - IT WORKS OUT. Ultimately the decision you make will be the right one for you at this moment. We are living in uncertain times and if approached with perspective, the novel coronavirus is a lesson to us all that life is unpredictable and not always linear.
