Second Grade News You Can Use

December 14-17, 2015

A Note From Mrs. Graham

The Very Veggie Christmas Program was precious! I hope all of you were able to come and see us celebrate Christmas together. Send me some pictures if you have some good ones to share. I did not have my camera today.

We will keep to our regular schedule each morning this week, but in the afternoons we will be making some Christmas ornaments. On Monday, Mrs. Brasel is going to come join us during this time. On Tuesday, a friend of mine who is a student at the University of Tennessee will be coming to make an ornament after observing us in the morning. On Wednesday, Mrs. Pulgarin will be helping us make a special craft.

Thursday morning we will have a Christmas party. There will be more details to follow in this newsletter.

DECEMBER 15-AR deadline for second graders.

DECEMBER 17- Christmas Party at 9:00. Dismissal at 10:50 for those who do not dismiss early with a parent.

JANUARY 5-Students return to school

JANUARY 6-Report cards go home

Our reading theme this week is Christmas. I will be reading my favorite Christmas stories aloud. The children will be practicing by reading a Reader's Theater piece based on The Grinch That Stole Christmas.

Please encourage your child to read at home if necessary to complete his or her AR goal. The deadline is Tuesday at 3:00.

Library books should be returned on Wednesday.

2 Digit Addition Practice continues to be our theme. We will have homework on Monday, Tuesdsay, and Wednesday nights. The big skill this week is to learn how to rewrite the two digit addition problems vertically and to line the ones and tens columns up so the addition will be easier to do accurately.

Luke 2:8-20 Angels appear to the Shepherds

We have finished presenting our Explorer projects. We learned all about trade routes, sponsoring countries, new territories and how our explorers lived and died. The information your children presented was accurate and well researched. I was impressed by their presentations.

We may have to make some snow this week since it does not look like we are going to have a white Christmas. We can at least pretend.

Christmas Party

You are all invited to join us on Thursday morning for a Christmas breakfast and book exchange. The books need to be gently used, new, or even purchased at McKay. Please wrap the book to place under our tree. Your child can bring the book in any time this week.

Becky Drake: Dunkin Donuts

Gloria Leal: Fruit

Janet Barnett: Yogurt

Jodi Morris: Orange Juice

Barbara Porter: Sausage Balls

Anna Bledsoe: Muffins

We may need other drink choices like milk/chocolate milk, or hot chocolate. If you have other food ideas, just email me and I'll add you to my list. Thank you for all your help.
