Hello FUSD Staff and Community,
We are a week away from Winter Break, and our schools are busy with finals, sports, performances, spirit days, celebrations and more. I send gratitude to everyone working to make these events possible, and the outstanding staff keeping our normal operations running.
As we close out December I’ve had the pleasure to visit 24 of our 44 school sites and I can’t wait to visit the rest as we return from winter break. With each and every visit I am reminded that the excellence of FUSD is a shared responsibility and each student, staff member and parent/guardian, are invaluable in our effort to educate all students.
I wish you and your loved ones a joyful close to 2022 and a happy new year.
Board Vacancy
The Fremont Unified School District Governing Board has a vacant seat for Area 1 due to the resignation of former Trustee Desrie Campbell, who was recently elected to serve on Fremont’s City Council.
The Board will make a provisional appointment of an Area 1 Trustee to serve through November 2024. The appointee may choose to run in the November 2024 election for a full term.
The appointee must reside in Area 1 and meet other eligibility criteria. Visit the District website for more information and the application packet.
The deadline to apply is January 13, 2023 at 4:30pm.
2023-24 Enrollment Information
Information on transitional kindergarten (TK), kindergarten, sibling priority and other new student enrollment for the 2023-24 school year is now available at www.fremont.k12.ca.us/enrollment.
Eligibility for transitional kindergarten is expanding: children who will be 5 years old between September 2, 2023 and April 2, 2024 can enroll in this free program for 2023-24 to get a head start in school and build their social, communication and independence skills.
If your student is currently attending an FUSD school in grades TK-11, there is no need to re-enroll.
Coding Hour at FUSD Elementary Schools
Code for Fun and the Fremont Education Foundation (FEF) are proud to bring Coding Day to every FUSD elementary school in 2023. Twice a week from January to June, we will be visiting a school and bring a Coding Hour to all students in grades 1 to 6.
We welcome parents/guardians and other community members to complete this volunteer application form to help support Coding Hour in one or more of our elementary schools!
At-Home COVID-19 Test Kits
FUSD is participating in a state program to provide free at-home test kits to each preK-12 student (ages 2+) and staff member to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Students and staff will be offered two tests to use before returning from Winter Break. The first test is meant to be administered January 8, 2023, the second on Monday, January 9 before students or staff return to sites. If either test is positive, please contact your student’s school (or supervisor for staff) for information about returning to school or work.
The kits have been, or will be, distributed directly through students’ school sites and employees’ work locations.
Participation in this program is optional. FUSD will not require proof of a negative test for students or staff. However, students or staff with a positive test result, any COVID-19 symptoms, and/or a known exposure to someone with COVID-19 must follow the student flowchart or staff flowchart before returning to campus.
Reminder: Health & Safety Protocols
Please remember to complete the daily health screener before students enter campus, and keep students home when they are ill. The cold, flu and other viruses are circulating in our community, and it remains important to test for COVID-19 when symptoms are present.
Masks are strongly recommended indoors, and are available in school front offices.
FUSD’s State of the District
Please join Superintendent CJ Cammack for a State of the District presentation on January 18, 2023 from 6-7pm, with updates on student support, academics, budget, facilities and more.
Visit www.fremont.k12.ca.us/series to submit questions or comments that may be addressed during the presentation, and to access the virtual event on January 18.
