The Sun, The Planets ,and How They Orbit
Now if I asked a 2nd grader how many stars their are in our solar system they would most likely say their is to many to count and they would be wrong. The SUN is the one and only star in our solar system. Not only is the Sun the star of our solar system it is the center as well. Lets talk about the planets orbiting the sun. When orbiting most adults these days would say that their orbiting circle is egg shaped that is not true. we all have textbooks right. Well the people that made your science book just stretched the picture so it looks like an oval shaped orbit and the only thing that has an oval shaped orbit is a comet. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars,Jupiter, Saturn,(ha-ha) Uranus (ha-ha),and Neptune all have a circle orbiting system.
Inner and Outer Planets and Characteristics
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the outer planets meaning they are larger, many more moons, mainly gas with a solid core, and they are nicknamed the "Gas Giants".
