Who were some of the famous Viking warriors?
There were many well-known Viking warriors who conquered Europe. Some of these well known warriors were, Berserker, who was a member of a group of Vikings warriors. This group of warriors (The Berserkers) were known for forming them selves into a frenzy, they would go wild before a battle and then run into a battle without Armour. Most people thought that these Vikings were insane. Some believed it was due to them eating food that contained behaviour altering drugs. These warriors rose to the name Berserk which is now used a word to describe someone who is crazy, or insane.
Eric The Red
The list goes on, there were many, many Vikings warriors. One of them that stands out though is ‘Eric The Red’. His real name was Eric Thorvaldson and was later known as Eric the Red because of his red hair. Eric is known for being the warrior who colonised Greenland.
What were some well-known groups of warriors?
Some of the well-known groups of Viking warriors are, The Berserkers who have already been mentioned, and The Normans. This group was known for raiding French coasts. By the early 900’s The Normans had settled into the French territory, near the mouth of the Seine River, which is now known as Normandy.
What weapons did the Vikings use?
Vikings used weapons to kill and destroy. Some of the weapons they used are knives, swords and battle-axes. Out of those weapons the most commonly used weapons was the battle-axe and sword because of it strength and brutality the battle-axe was a prized possession, They liked using their swords because they were reliable and easy to use in war, swords were usually 60-70cm long and the were made out of hard metal.
What were viking weapons made out of?
Viking weapons were typically made out of iron because they were skilled blacksmiths, so the Vikings found it easier to make their weapons stronger out of iron. On rare occasions a wealthy Viking would make a weapon out of silver but that was very rare because the silver didn't last as long so it was cheaper to use iron as it lasted longer.
