A Message from Mrs. Schneider
What a wonderful art show last night! This is one of my favorite times of the year. Ms. Green saves all the student work that has been created and proudly displays all of the completed projects. Students and staff have been seen walking and looking, stopping and thinking, finding and smiling the last two weeks. The pride on students' faces when they see their work hanging on display warms my heart. I am so glad we got to share this with all of you this year! A huge thank you to Ms. Green and all of the volunteers who have spent countless hours mounting and hanging projects. We couldn't do this without you! If you were unable to stop in during the art show, the art work will be on display through out the next week. Feel free to stop in after dismissal and take a look. Just check in with the office and get a name sticker.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Schneider

5th Grade Clap Out
There are some changes that we need to implement in order to make this happen.
- Weather permitting, we will be doing this outside on our walking path. Our TK-4th graders will be lined up along the path to cheer our 5th graders on while they walk.
- Family members will need to park in the front and walk around to the playground gate in the back. Ms. Ivy will check you in at a table.
- The Clap Out will last about 10 minutes. You may stay to take a few pictures with friends or by our Woodland sign.
- We will need families to leave the playground and parking lot by 11:10am to avoid dismissal lines that may block you in. Families may choose to take their 5th grader home at this time (or out for ice cream!) by signing them out with Ms. Ivy at the playground gate.
We look forward to celebrating with you!

Positivity Project (P2)
This week, we worked on Other People Mindset as our final Positivity Project (P2) Trait for this school year.
What does Other People Matter Mindset look like?
This year, you have learned that people who have strong positive relationships do five things consistently - these are the five elements of the Other People Mindset.
1. Identify and appreciate the good in other people,
2. Know that your words and actions affect others
3. Support others when they struggle
4. Cheer on others’ successes
5. Be present and give others your attention
Why Does It Matter?
People who have a strong Other People Mindset and a clear understanding of the 24 character strengths are able to build and maintain strong, positive, relationships with others. In other words, individuals who live the Other People Mindset might be described as: thoughtful, supportive, encouraging, interested.
Speed! Multiplication Game
Speed! Multiplication Game is a skip-counting card game designed to teach children to multiply and how to multiply faster. Two people play against each other to see who can get rid of all their cards first. Kids play this game because it's fun, but adults play to teach children to multiply. Once familiar with the numbers in a game, multiplication becomes simple. The game consists of eight decks of cards which are math fact answers to the multiplication tables. In order to win, kids must memorize the numbers which serves as a fun replacement for the majority of multiplication flash card work. After playing this game frequently, kids begin to recognize numerical patterns which help with learning numerous math concepts such as reducing fractions and factoring.
Many students have played this game with their teacher or in intervention groups and have been asking how to get this game at home. You can purchase the game online at https://sis4teachers.org/shop/Speed-Multiplication-Game-p150491666

COMMUNITY EVENTS
SWE Girls Engineering Exploration Day
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Detroit Section is pleased to announce our 14th annual Girls’ Engineering Exploration (GEE) Day on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Returning as an in-person event for the first time since 2019, this year’s open house style event will be held at Keast Commons on Wayne State University's campus from 10AM - 2PM. The free event, with lunch provided, is a part of SWE’s continuous effort to educate girls about the endless career opportunities that the engineering field has to offer.
Registration instructions are included on the flyer and linked here. The last date to register is Friday, May 27th, 2022.
GEE is open to 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grade girls. Students will be able to do hands-on activities, learn what engineers do, how they use STEM in their jobs, and interact with women in engineering.
The event will be held outdoors in an open house style. As such, we are requiring that students be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. There will be resources for parents at each activity station.
