SLCS District Update
9-23-2021
Note from the Superintendent
Good Evening SLCS Families and Staff Members,
We fully realize that the bus delays and route cancelations are creating tough situations for our families and schools. Thank you for the understanding you have displayed during the first few weeks of the school year. The driver shortage has been challenging and we know it is not ideal for our families, so again, thank you! Our drivers and Transportation Department office staff are working extremely hard and making the best out of a difficult situation.
The good news is we added two drivers to our team this week and have four additional drivers in various stages of training who will be driving routes soon. Despite this good news, we still need more drivers. As a district, we will continue working to recruit and train additional drivers. There will continue to be delays and the occasional cancellation, but the road ahead will smooth out as additional drivers are added to our excellent transportation team.
In closing, it has been a pleasure throughout this week to attend Curriculum Night at many of our schools. The rain hasn’t been a deterrent as attendance has been excellent. It is a privilege for us to work with your children. We value the partnership we have together and rely on it each day as we work to provide a rich and positive learning experience for the wonderful students of SLCS.
SLCS Proud!
Steven Archibald
Superintendent
Curriculum Nights
A reminder to all families planning to attend elementary school Curriculum NIghts that the Oakland County Emergency Order (2021-01) applies to visitors to our schools. Please remember to wear your mask while visiting our school. If you forget, our staff will have one available at the entrance. Thank you for the continued support!
In-person pathway families are welcome to join us on the following dates:
Junior Kindergarten September 23, 2021 5:30 pm*
Grades K, 1, and 2 September 23, 2021 6:30 pm*
Grades 3, 4, and 5 (Pearson only) September 29, 2021 6:30 pm*
Grades 3, 4, and 5 (all but Pearson) September 30, 2021 6:30 pm*
*Elementary schools have split each event into two time blocks to reduce crowds in each classroom. See information from your elementary school about the specific time you should attend.
Prior to the pandemic, elementary-aged students were invited to attend the elementary Curriculum Night events with their parents. To reduce the number of people in the buildings at one time the 2021 Curriculum Night events are for parents and guardians only. Students and siblings are not able to attend this year.
Our elementary Virtual Learning Pathway classrooms will host a virtual Curriculum Night presentation for their families. These nights are designed for parents to virtually visit their child’s class to learn about the class itself, as well as meet their child’s teacher. You do not come up to the school for this event. These sessions are held virtually. Links to a Google Meet will be shared by your child’s teacher. Below are the dates and times for the elementary VLP Curriculum Night events:
Grades K, 1 and 2 September 23, 2021 6:30 pm
Grades 3, 4 and 5 September 30, 2021 6:30 pmPathway Changes
