WEEKLY STAFF BULLETIN

WEEKLY STAFF BULLETIN
Good morning,
This is the last week of February and Spring is right around the corner , 25 days but who is counting. This week Angela's Curbside Cuisine will be here on Thursday, and the MORP dance is on Friday. We will be finishing up with the trait of Kindness and next month we will focus on Fairness. For extended hour on Wednesday, we will meet in our focus teams.
If you haven't shared your data sheet with me, please do so early this week. We haven't had any strength spotting for a few weeks, maybe we can find some strengths in one another throughout the week.
Thank you for everything you do and always being willing to help one another out, especially during this time of sickness. Hopefully, it will be over soon.
Have a great week!
Aim High and Dream Big!!
Trish

Gratitude, Bravery, Perseverance, Self-Control, Honesty and/or Kindness
Journal each day
2-25 Tuesday
Divide students into groups of two to three and hand each group a different scenario. (Role play scenarios will be provided.)
Then explain: “The sheet of paper I handed your group shows how someone might feel in a certain situation. As a team, create a role-play that shows the best way for the characters to respond. Everyone should have a part in the role-play.”
Have students spend five or ten minutes creating their two-minute role-play. Provide suggestions as needed. Then have students perform their role-plays for the rest of the class.
If time permits, allow students to ask questions after the role-plays.
After students complete their role-plays, ask the following questions:
Negative feelings can be difficult to handle. What did you learn today about how to respond in a positive way even though you may be facing a difficult situation?
Do you think kindness helps people feel better about themselves? Why or why not?
Do you think it helps them get along better with others?
In what ways can being kind to others and ourselves help us stay positive?
2-27 Thursday
Have students read and choose whether they agree or disagree with how the situation was handled. Student handouts are provided.
You are hanging out with some friends when one makes fun of how your sister dresses. You tell the rest of your friends to spread rumors about that student.
Ever since you started 6th grade, your best friend has been hanging out with another group of friends. You decide to talk to her about the problem.
Your mother grounds you for breaking a lamp when your brother was the one who did it. You get angry and accuse her of loving your brother more.
You borrow a skateboard from a friend. You let another friend borrow it, and he breaks the skateboard. You go to your friend and tell him what happened and apologize.
Your teacher wrongly accuses you and a friend of cheating on a test. You decide to ask for help from your grandma who you live with, because you don’t know how to solve the problem.
Your parents won’t let you stay out as late as you want. You come up with a list of some of reasons why you think you should be able to stay out late.
You are playing soccer and someone fouls you but the referee calls the foul on you. You try to trip that player every chance that you get in the game.
Your friends love to shop for clothes but you don’t have money to do that. You are embarrassed and don’t want to tell them, so instead you tell them that their idea is stupid.
Have students discuss how else they could handle the situation.
If time, have students journal about what they learned about kindness in the month of February.
If you have any new students that haven't taken the VIA survey, please find a time this week that they can take it. Here are the survey links:
