Calling all parents of fall athletes! Would you be willing to contribute pictures to our 2018-2019 yearbook? We'd love to have them! These should be pictures they are willing to have published for others to see of students participating in football, volleyball, and cross country. We would LOVE to have a variety of pictures for the yearbook, and parents often get the best pictures!
Pictures can be sent to bjohnson@mhlt.org, or you can upload them to our Parent Sports Pictures Google folder. Thank you!
NEW STAFF HIGHLIGHT................. Alyssa Gordy, 3rd grade
My name is Alyssa Gordy and I am the new 3rd grade teacher. In May, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a degree in Elementary Education. I am originally from a small town called Hartland, Wisconsin. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and two dogs Ellie and Ethel. I love spending time outdoors hiking, fishing, and skiing. I am so excited to be teaching 3rd grade and looking forward to a great school year!
NEW STAFF HIGHLIGHT.... Julia Straubhaar, Creative Minds
Hello Firebirds! My name is Ms. Straubhaar, and I am the newest teacher in Creative Minds Charter School. As a child, I grew up on dairy farm in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, which is about 25 miles west of Madison. In 2013, I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Early-Middle Childhood Education from UW-Oshkosh. Last year I lived on the Big Lake in Ashland, WI and taught fourth grade. I decided to move south to Minocqua, WI to pursue my dream to teach in a multiage classroom. In my freetime I enjoy hiking, exploring waterfalls and new places, as well as spending time with family and friends. I feel very grateful to be apart of the MJ1 School District, and cannot wait to get to know the community better!

Start-of-Year Reminders
- Now that the school year is in full swing, we ask that parents say goodbye to their students and let them walk to class independently. When parents need to enter the school, they are required to sign in in the front office and receive a visitor's badge.
- If your child is going to be absent, please call the Message Line: (715) 356-5206, and press option 1. Students will be marked Unexcused if we do not receive a message from a parent or guardian on the Message Line.
If parents need to get a message to their child during the school day, please leave a message on the Message Line (715) 356-5206, and press option 1 by 2:30 pm. Messages are distributed to students at 10:45 and 2:30 each day.
For additional policies and procedures, please view our 2018-2019 Student Handbook.
Counseling Corner
Congratulations to the following 7th and 8th grade students who have been accepted into the Peer Mentor Program for 2018-2019. These students will be working in a supervised setting with select kindergarten through third-grade students. Their role is to build relationships with our younger students, modeling self-advocacy, leadership, and responsibility. It’s wonderful to see the positive bonds that form over the course of the year as they use their “buddy” time together to read, play games and work on art projects.
