Our School's Mission
Our School's Why
Dear LWSH Families and Caregivers,
Greetings LWSH Families and Caregivers,
I hope that this message today finds you and your family healthy and well as we enter the second month of the new year! As we move beyond the start of the second semester, we are assessing each student's on-track for graduation status. The Ohio Department of Education has specific criteria that must be met in order for our scholars to qualify to graduate. We monitor our scholars after the first semester to determine if our scholars are or are not on-track toward graduation. As a result of the pandemic, we have a seen a steep decline in our scholars being on-track and ready for graduation. And as stated in January's newsletter, attendance remains one of our biggest barriers to getting and keeping our scholars on track.
Therefore, we will be hosting on Attendance Town Hall session on Thursday, February 3rd from 1:00pm - 2:00pm and 5:00pm - 6:00pm. We ask that all of our families attend one of the two sessions to learn about your child's on-track status, and ways you can improve attendance and the quality of schoolwork using the resources the school and community provides. In addition to this, we ask that ALL senior parents attend the Mandatory Parent Senior meeting that will also be held on Thursday, February 3rd. The meeting will be held in two sessions, from 1:00pm - 2:00pm and 5:00pm - 6:00pm. Senior parents need to attend only one of the two sessions.
As a community, we all want every scholar to be and stay on track for graduation, and with your help, I know that we can make that a reality! We look forward to our continued work with you so that, together, we transform ourselves and our community!
Sincerely,
Principal Juliet King
New COVID School Guidelines and Testing

Important New Messages
- Opportunity School: Students may now be assigned Opportunity School for low-level disciplinary offenses by teachers and school administration. Opportunity School is an after school detention for 1-2 hours after school (3:45pm - 4:45pm or 3:45pm - 5:45pm). During Opportunity School, scholars are given the "opportunity" to make different choices in the future to avoid further consequence. Students will be given a notice in advance of the date they are to serve and parents will be called.
- Late Arrivals and Early Dismissals: We are attempting to curb the problem of many of our scholars arriving to school late and / or leaving early tied to a lack of motivation or high anxiety. It is imperative that they continue their learning even when it feels difficult. We are aware of the anxiety that many of our scholars have been facing since the start of the pandemic, but we are also aware that they can still be successful in school given the supports we provide. If you or your family need access to mental health services, community resources, or would like to create a family plan, please reach out to the school at 216-838-7100.
- Use of Phones: As a school, we are following the district's policy of students maintaining a phone as long as it is put away. We do allow occasions where students are allowed to work quietly and independently with headphones; or step out of class with the teacher's permission to take an important call from a parent or family member. However, any inappropriate use or time of use of the phone can be taken away by the teacher for the remainder of class; or taken from an administrator for a guardian to pick up. Please speak with your child about expectations regarding the phone to allow them to keep it for safety purposes.
- Social Media: We know that our scholars are at an age where social media is at the forefront of a child's source of socialization and communication. However, not all of them are using it properly or for good use, which often times leads to disputes that spill into the school. Please monitor or restrict the use of your child's social media as that is something we cannot control without you.
- Calamity Days: Rather than closing on snow or other calamity days, we will be converting to our remote plan. Our scholars have experience this process twice and are familiar with the procedures. With snow in the forecast, we want to ensure that everyone takes their devices home and brings them to school each day as a routine. If you currently lack internet access, please call the school at 216-838-7100 to request a hotspot.
- Working Remotely from Home: Scholars who must be quarantined or are out of town may resume working remotely from home. A parent or guardian must call the school to make the staff aware of who will be working remotely and are prepared to monitor their work. There will be no synchronous, or on-screen learning with the teachers on in-person days, but any work completed will count toward their overall grade and attendance.
LWSH's Parent-Teacher Conferences
Greetings LWSH Scholars, Families, and Caregivers,
There is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, February 3rd. We will be having our Parent-Teacher Conferences from 12:30pm - 7:00pm. Due to the impending inclement weather, we will be hosting all Parent-Teacher Conferences virtually. This is the link you will use to get to the conferences, which also has been provided on our website and parent newsletter. All parent meetings held that day, including our Attendance Town Hall and Mandatory Senior Parent Meetings will still be held from 1pm – 2pm and 5pm -6pm. Both sessions will be available through the provided link. To request a phone or teleconference, you can complete this digital form and your child's advisory teacher will contact you at that time.
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you all there!

What You Need to Know About the 21-22 School Year
District-Wide COVID Protocols
- All staff, students, and visitors must wear an appropriate face mask while in the building regardless of vaccination status.
- Staff, scholars, and visitors will maintain a distance of 3-ft or more.
- If a scholar is exhibiting COVID symptoms, our on-site nurse will complete an assessment and contact the family immediately. All scholars who show symptoms of COVID will be isolated in our designated COVID room until picked up.
- If your scholar tests positive for COVID, they must quarantine at home for the recommended time of 10 days, and it must be reported to our COVID hotline at 216-838-WELL.
- Once a positive case is confirmed in the school, we notify all families, scholars, and staff via a notice written on district letterhead.
- If your child is NOT exhibiting COVID symptoms when you receive a letter, it is still safe to send them to school. However, if you are contacted directly by a nurse or your child is beginning to show symptoms, you should keep them home and have them COVID tested.
- See CMSD's Plans for a Safe Return To In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services
- To maintain a professional culture and atmosphere, we are strongly encouraging all LWSH scholars to represent our collaboration and partnership with MetroHealth Hospitals by wearing the shirts provided to them by the schools. This includes both polos and sweatshirts.
- If your scholar is unable to wear the professional attire for LWSH, they do not have to wear the traditional dress code from previous in-person school years; however, the dress must be appropriate. See our district's policy for proper dress on the Back to School Informational section of the CMSD website.
- Students must live 1 mile or more away from the school in order to receive RTA bus tickets.
- Students who receive RTA tickets will receive their tickets weekly from our secretary Mrs. McMillan. Please be sure that your child keeps these tickets in a safe place to ensure transportation each day. These tickets are two-way (one ride to school and one ride back home) and include transfers that are valid for up to 2 1/2 hours between transfers.
- If your child is riding on a traditional school bus, you may track your child's bus with locations in real time using our Edulog app.
- If you have any questions or concerns regarding the P-EBT cards, you may contact CMSD's Ombudsman's Office at 216-838-0348, or contact Family and Job Services at 866-244-0071.
- Doors open to scholars beginning at 8:10am Monday - Friday for breakfast. Classes begin at 8:35am and end at 3:35pm. (Please note that some seniors have modified schedules where they do not have morning or afternoon classes. Please call the school and request to speak with our counselor, Mrs. Hubbard for more information regarding senior schedules).
- All parents, guardians, and caregivers are welcome to join our Parent Advisory Committee (AKA PAC). What you will do as a member is to provide us with feedback on our educational program; help us strategize and connect other families to the school; and help us decide how our Title I funds could best be used. The PAC will meet monthly on a regular day and time in order to keep a consistent schedule. We will also offer leadership positions such as President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We sincerely hope that you take time and consider being a vital part of this committee as we consider a vital part of the educational process. To sign up, please fill out this form and someone will reach out to you to provide you with information for our first meeting. Thanks for your involvement and engagement!!!
- Beginning Tuesday, September 7th, our juniors and seniors will report to classes daily at the MetroHealth Campus located at 2500 MetroHealth Drive, just minutes away from the Lincoln-West main campus.
- School start and end times remain the same, and scholars in these grade levels should continue to follow the schedule they had a the main campus.
- Scholars who do not have a first block class, may attend school at their later time; and scholars who do not have a last block class, may check out early. If a scholar plays a sport or is a member of an after-school club, they may wait in a designated area identified by administration to use as a study hall until the end of the day.
- When dropping off or picking your child by car, please be sure to park to your left on West 31st street to avoid blocking residents and traffic. We also ask that you remain in your vehicle. Thank you!
- Now is the time to maximize our efforts to continue socially and academically grow in a post- and new pandemic world by making sure we are learning every day! Please check out the Stay in the Game campaign sponsored by the Cleveland Browns in partnership with CMSD to encourage our families and scholars to learn everyday, whether in person or virtually. Clevelandbrowns.com | Official Site of the Cleveland Browns
- Please be sure that you call the office at 216-838-7100 to report any excused absences so they can be properly marked.
- Understand the long-term impact students leaving early and arriving late has on academic performance and overall test scores. Students should only leave school early if they are ill, need to attend to doctor appointments, or have a family emergency.
- Legal guardians must contact the school for early dismissals. If students leave the campus without parent notification and the proper sign-out procedure, disciplinary action may be taken.
