Science Fair

Students be bringing their science fair projects on Monday morning. They need to be displayed in the hallway by 8:00 a.m.

Projects must be here by 8:00 a.m. on January 11th to participate in the judging. Once the judging is complete, please share projects with your class. It is important that all of our students see the importance and level of critical thinking it takes to be a scientist.

A note from Nurse Beebe...

As the weather grows colder, more jackets and hats can mean an increase in the exposure to lice. We are seeing an increase of head lice here at Watkins. A few things you can do to help prevent the spread in your classroom:

• hang jackets and sweaters in lockers where ever possible so there is separation between them

• encourage children to keep their hats and scarves inside coat pockets

• discourage students from sharing combs, brushes, hats, scarves, hair accessories, or earphones

• discourage “head to head” contact or sharing of pillows

• refer students to the clinic if you notice lice or itching (the district no longer sends students home for lice, but we do educate parents on treatment and prevention)

Wylie ISD follows the recommendations of the Texas Department of State Health Services which can be found at http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/schoolhealth/lice.shtm. If you have any question, just let me know. Thank you for your help.

21 Day Challenge

Wylie ISD is participating in the Medical City Children's Hospital 21-Day Snack Challenge. We are also competing against Rockwall ISD to have the most families sign up and participate in the challenge. Briefly, the challenge is to replace unhealthy snacks with healthy ones.

Look for more information to come!

There will be an assembly on Feb. 10th at 7:45 for about 30 minutes.
