PWES Pelican Pride
The Land of the Little People
Week of January 4
A Message from Dr. Collins
Greetings Pelican Parents,
We at PWES would like to wish you and your family a safe, happy and prosperous New Year! We have had our share of challenges in 2020, but I am extremely grateful for every student, parent, community and staff member for coming together to meet the moment. Here's to a brighter 2021! There is no school on tomorrow, January 4.
Please be reminded that January 5-8, 2021, are approved Virtual Learning Days per the current Academic School Year Calendar, as approved by the BOE at the July meeting. Students who choose the in-person hybrid model will return to school based on his/her assigned cohort starting January 11. Cohort information has been sent to parents that have opted for their child to participate in hybrid instruction.
The District continues to monitor COVID transmission levels in our area and remains in close contact with health officials from the Coastal Health District. If COVID transmission rates climb to a level that necessitates a change to district-wide operations, parents and staff will be notified through parent notification system, email correspondence, web postings at SCCPSS.com and through our social media channels. Please monitor the District website and established communication channels for possible updates. SCCPSS encourages everyone to continue to wear your mask, wash your hands and practice social distancing.
If your child receives free/reduced cost lunch, your child may be eligible to receive Comcast internet access for $9.95 per month. You may apply at internetessentials.com or you can call 1-855-8-INTERNET.
The health and safety of our staff and students are our top priority. Please be reminded of our onsite safety protocols. If any student participating in hybrid instruction has been in close contact of a person that has a confirmed positive COVID-19 test, the parent should notify the teacher and the student will receive instruction virtually until further notified. If hybrid students have experienced a fever of 100.0 or greater orally (99.4 digitally), difficulty breathing, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, congestion or runny nose, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea they should also notify their teacher and return to virtual instruction until further notified.
We encourage all virtual students to remember to wear an age-appropriate face shield in public, wash their hands often and practice social distancing.
The new Year Round Update(YRU) form is now available in the PowerSchool Parent Access Portal. This form allows parents/guardians the ability to update phone numbers, emails, and emergency contacts anytime throughout the rest of the school year. Data is updated immediately in PowerSchool upon form submission. Please note that addresses and parent/guardian names cannot be updated in the YRU. Parents will need to contact the schools directly for those requests as additional documentation is required.
