Principal's Message

Dear Families and Friends of Boone School,

I am so happy to announce that Boone will be receiving the CPS Supportive Schools Certification at the “Exemplary” level (the highest level) on our school report card this year! Boone is the only school in CPS Network 2 to receive this designation this year. We were selected for our implementation of high-quality social-emotional learning curriculum and positive behavior supports.

This year all students will be receiving a free t-shirt with the words, “Work Hard and Be Kind,” on the front. This is a message that we will be focusing on throughout the year across all grades PK-8. The t-shirts are part of a grant that Boone received to support our social-emotional learning programs. We encourage students to wear the t-shirts often, and live the message every day. Thank you for your support in helping to keep our students happy and healthy at Boone!

Sincerely,

Jackie Delaney, Principal

Collaborative Community Art Project: Where Are You From?

Have you heard about our collaborative community art project entitled, "Where are you from?" All students PK-8 as well as all staff are participating this project, which will soon fill many of the walls of Boone! Each student will create a work of art on an 8x8 inch canvas which will explore the theme of "Where are you from?" We invite parents and families to assist students with their creations. This project will help us to promote student voice throughout the building and provide an opportunity for students to share more about their own unique identity.

Expressive Arts Night!

Please join us for Expressive Arts Night on Tuesday, October 20, from 5:30-7:00PM. You will have the opportunity to meet with all of the Boone Expressive Arts Teachers and to learn more about our Arts and Electives programs. We hope to see you there!

Mawi Asgedom Visits Boone!

Mawi Asgedom is a refugee from Ethiopia who has spoken to more than one million people and written six bestselling books that have been read in thousands of schools. All Boone students in grades 5-8 are currently reading the book "Of Beetles and Angels: A Boy's Remarkable Journey from a Refugee Camp to Harvard." Mawi will visit Boone on Oct 9 to share his messages of perseverance, honoring one's identity, and the importance of working hard and being kind. Parents are welcomed to attend either the 8:30AM or 9:30AM presentation on 10/9/15.

Parent Mornings

Join us for Parent Mornings coming up in October and November! Parent Mornings provide the opportunity for parents and families to observe instruction in the classroom and participate in workshops and informational sessions with Boone Staff. Please see calendar below for different dates for specific grade levels.

Chicago Public Library - Library Card Campaign

The Chicago Public Library, has announced the first Library Card Initiative in 10 years for CPS students. Between now and October 16th, all children who apply for a library card will receive either their first library card or a replacement card with the fees for replacement waived. Fines will still be on any former cards, but a new card will be issued, and children can check out materials if they have a fine under the $10 threshold. Even if they are over that threshold, the new card will give them access to CPL electronic resources. Contact the CPL-Children's Services Department at 312-747-4780 or story@chipublib.org with questions.
