A Note From Dr. Elliott

Good Evening Disney Families,

We certainly have some busy days ahead of us. I do hope everyone enjoyed their three day weekend. I am still anxiously awaiting the consistent warm air and spring breeze.

This week our 3-5th students will start our MAP standardized test. Please help your child be ready by arriving on time. If a testing student is late, he/she will not be admitted in class until the testing time has ended. Your child will then have to make up the test at another time. As a reminder, 3rd and 5th grade will begin testing at 9am Tues.-Thurs and 4th grade will begin at 10 am Tues-Thurs. Second and fifth grade have switched schedules. Please see times below. In addition, I have provided other ways you can help your child be ready for the test.

2nd grade Specials: 9:45-10:45, Lunch: 11:40-12:10

5th grade Specials: 2:20-3:20, Lunch 11:30-12:00

How can you help your child?

  • Be present and on time. Extra stress can be avoided by allowing the students to take the test with their peers. If students are late, they will not allowed to enter their classroom during the testing period. They will attend a different room where testing will either be started or optional reading time will be provided.
  • Eat a balanced breakfast. Protein is a great brain food! Avoid sugary drinks and or snacks, as the energy and metabolism have a quick crash rate and can cause brain fog. Energy drinks are not allowed in the classroom.
  • Go to bed at a decent time. Testing days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Most students need 8-10 hours of sleep to be fully productive. We know many students have lots of activities in the evening that keep them busy, so even a short nap in the afternoon right after school can be helpful.
  • Chromebooks are charged and headphones are working. All students should have headphones. If not, please have them let their teacher know immediately. Chromebooks and chargers need to come to school every day and must be fully charged. Chromebooks that are not charged may result in make-up testing dates, which can cause stress for students.

Kindergarten ABC Celebrations

Kindergarten will also be starting their ABC Celebration Days this next week. I can't wait to see the pictures and the fun for their end of the year events!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up! May 2-5th we will celebrate our amazing staff for all the love and hard work they put forth every day. PTA and I will be sending information to you soon regarding plans to celebrate our classroom teachers. I will include their favorites lists in upcoming information. I would like to ensure that our Specials Teachers get some love as well. Let's add some color to their faces by wearing their favorite colors each day:

Music Monday: pink or sparkles (Mrs. Tillery's favorite color)

Tech Tuesday: green (Mr. Carlstrom's favorite color)

Wild Art Wednesday: yellow and shiny black (Mrs. Sexton's favorite color)

Readers are Thinkers Thursday: purple (Mrs. Payne's favorite color)

Fitness Friday: orange (Coach Adams' favorite color)

Don't forget Talent Show audition forms are due APRIL 20 for all 4 & 5th grade students interested in performing. In the meantime, continue to check out the fun events that are happening at Disney!

Kindergarten Round Up

SPS plans to hold Kindergarten Round-Up at every elementary school in the district. This will allow you an opportunity to meet our teachers briefly, enroll your child in Kindergarten and interact in Kindergarten activities that will give your child a preview of what is to come in the Kindergarten year. Kindergarten Round-Up at Disney is on April 19th from 5:30-6:30pm.

This event does not take the place of Meet the Teacher or Kindergarten Orientation which will occur prior to the start of the 2022-23 school year. More information will come regarding those events.
