Matt's Message
Kia Ora Koutou e te Whānau
Welcome to term two. It is certainly nice to be back at school in what feels like more normal conditions. No mask wearing and more connection with our parents and whanau has been a great way to start the term that’s for sure.
I would like to thank all of those people who were involved in the powhiri last Thursday to officially welcome me as the Principal/Tumuaki here at Papamoa Primary School. It was such a lovely morning having both parents and visitors in the school. I would like to make a special mention of Te Manawanui Ropu and their beautiful singing and leading of the Powhiri. Nga mihi to Matua Tiepa, Whaea Maddy and the Te Manawanui whanau for getting the tamariki all dressed and ready for the morning. I feel very lucky to be joining such an awesome team.
This term we are looking forward to a couple of key events that we will be able to have you as parents along to enjoy with us. Our first is our school cross country which is going to be held on Friday May 27th at Gordon Spratt reserve. The second key date is Tuesday 21st June which will be our school Matariki celebration in the afternoon/evening. Please mark these dates in your diary!
In the next couple of weeks I will be sharing with you some exciting developments happening around the school and also some ways that you or your business can get involved and support our school. We are very excited about the developments that are on the horizon for the children within the school…these projects are not more classrooms but plans to upgrade our facilities and other aspects of our school.
Lastly, it has been so nice to see parents in at school this week working with and alongside our teachers and their tamariki face to face at our Learning Conferences. Thank you not only to our whanau for engaging in these meetings but also to our teaching staff for the time and effort they put into preparing for these huis.
I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in and around school over the coming weeks.
Ngā manaakitanga - Best wishes
Matt

There is only 2 weeks to go!
Student Council
We are thrilled to introduce the Student Council for 2022:
Georgia, Neve, Jimmy, Zac, Emme, Leila, Alijah, Harvey, Ana, Alex, Jaya, Morgan, Ellie, Kade, Harry, Ryken, Amyjane, Chilli and Valens.
These are our Year 6 students who demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and represent the student voice for Pāpāmoa Primary School. They collaborate with the students, teachers and leaders to help make our school an even better place. We look forward to the exciting ideas and plans that our 2022 Student Council will bring to our school community this year.
Out of Zone Enrolments
Kia Ora Whānau
Please see the attached image for information about our available out of zone enrolments in Year 0/1 for the remainder of 2022.
The reason for the availability of out of zone spaces is to begin to manage our roll number with our newly introduced school zone. The additional spaces will have the school reaching approx. 650 children at the end of 2022, which the MOE has designed the school to be at.
This will also mean that we will not have to reduce or lose as many teachers as predicted for 2023 which is a big consideration for the Board of Trustees currently.
We would welcome you to share this post with any people in the Pāpāmoa community who may wish for their children who turn 5 this year to start at Pāpāmoa Primary School.
Out of zone applications will close on Wednesday 25th May.
To apply for an out of zone space, please complete the form via the following link.

Board of Trustees - May Whakahou (Update)
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Here is the monthly whakahou (update) in the school newsletter, so that you stay more informed of the progress we are making on the Board of Trustees.
Thank-you to all that attended the Official Welcoming Pōwhiri last Thursday for our new Tumuaki/Principal Matt Simeon, new staff and students for 2022. It was wonderful to have the community back on the school grounds and able to be part of such a big occasion.
These are some of the brief points from the recent March meeting:
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
FINANCE REPORT:
Committed Funds & Reserves: BOT discussed the priority list of projects that the staff and students have suggested to improve the school facilities. School to apply for external funding where possible, and Board to fund $200k from reserves. Principal to communicate plans once they are finalised.
Out Of Zone Enrolments: Board approved 20 Out Of Zone Enrolments for Year 0 students to be advertised in term two. This is because the Ministry of Education property plans are for approximately 660 students at our kura/school. We are currently sitting at around 600. The strategic decision was also based on trying to maintain our current staffing levels.
PROPERTY REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE:
Hall Renovation: The hall external renovations are still underway. The offical opening will be scheduled after this, along with the four new modulars.
Pool: BOT have agreed to extend the pool season for the Pāpāmoa Swimming Club so they can use the pool year round. This is based on the Club forming an Incorporated Society and increasing the communities access to the pool.
Signage: Majority of the school signs have been updated over the school holidays to add the macrons on Pāpāmoa, so the spelling is correct.
MOE Classroom Renovations: BOT was shared a map of the school site showing the 13 classrooms that are needing attention. Committee to keep Board and community updated on progress with the Ministry of Education.
As always, the Board welcomes your feedback on our school’s governance. Please contact the Board Chairperson on botchairperson@papamoa.school.nz with any queries.
Ngā mihi,
Sarah Webb.
