A really awesome program at Lake Highlands
What is this program about?
This is a Career Tech program for those who want to go into a career in the health care field. It is a 4 year progression with the last two being clinical rotations at the hospital and certifications in health care. Possible certifications are: medical assistant, pharmacy tech, CNA, phlebotomy tech, EKG tech. When you graduate you could have an endorsement on your diploma for Health sciences as well as a certification that will allow you to work in healthcare while completing college. This program gives you the edge needed in the competitive world of healthcare.
All your instructors have worked in healthcare and bring a wealth of knowledge. Much of your learning is hands on as well as some great experiences in the hospital setting.
What colleges offer health sciences?
We have some awesome nursing programs in Texas: University of Texas, University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Women's, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Tarleton State. For those looking for a community college Brookhaven, Tarrant County Community College, and El Centro are awesome as well. Want to be a Doctor? Baylor and Tech are outstanding as well as A&M. Medical schools: Baylor, University Southwestern, A&M, and Texas Tech.
The need for healthcare is rising. The demand is high. The salary is great. The job is rewarding. You impact lives daily. It's a great day for a Wildcat to be in health professions.
What is HOSA?
HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is a student lead organization for those who are interested in a career in the health care field. It has numerous opportunities and is Nationally and State known. You have opportunities for community scholarships, competitions in health care fields, scholarships, as well as to lead at any level from your school to the national level. HOSA is also at the college level so you can continue on after high school.
