Matt's Monday Memo
April 1, 2019
Good morning all.
Thanks to all for a great first week back from break. Busy but worthwhile work all around us.
To be sure, we are as good as the hour-to-hour work we do with our students each day in the conventional setting. However, this Friday bought particular attention to the efforts and impacts outside of our typical day. My daughter was on my phone and came across the video of Greg Heard and his dunk tank inspired wetsuit at the Selma Street dance in August. Todd Schaefer was performing in the Broadway Revue, along with Sara Romanowski (and her girls) doing much to bring student talent to the forefront. The stewardship of Eric Dunn and Jaime Schwartz of our acapella teams creates a space where students are valued and connected to make beautiful productions. Many teachers, like Brennen Almus, were working well after school with students Friday afternoon to support learning. Tim Cashel's decision to transition into a full-time coaching spot this summer witnessed the emotional departure to his team and classroom teaching. Author Pat Conroy observed his college baseball coach and noted…“his love of his boys poured out of him as it always does with the best of the breed.” That love was evident in many ways as our staff make the work about selflessly pouring into our students to allow them to do their best work and be their best selves. Thanks for all you do.
Regards,
Matt

Congratulations to Miette O’Malley, sophomore, who was awarded a full scholarship through the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange to study abroad her junior year at a high school in Germany. Upon arrival in Germany this summer, she will spend about a month taking an intensive German learning course before she goes to live with her host family for the rest of the year to attend the German high school to which she’s assigned. There, she will take regular courses (math, science, gym, etc.), all taught fully in German and with German classmates.
