The Giver - Theme Analysis
8th graders are expected to determine the theme of a story and analyze its development over the course of the text. While reading The Giver by Lois Lowry , students are tracking three majors themes. For each chapter, students are citing textual evidence in their digital journals that strongly exemplifies one of the three themes. In addition, the strongest theme examples for each chapter are posted on our classroom plot diagram to serve as a visual reminder of how each theme develops as the plot unfolds. Students will eventually use the evidence they gather to write a theme analysis essay.
