I hope your summer has been filled with making memories as a family & that your kids have been able to do some resting up for a new year. I'd like to welcome all of our returning families back to Westwood. I'd also like to extend a special welcome to all of our new families, both our incoming 1st graders & those coming from other schools.
My name is Ryan Hart & I have been Westwood's Principal for 6 years. I have a child at home who is 2, so I spent much of my summer having fun with him! My wife is a social worker currently staying at home with our son. Our family vacationed to Michigan this summer & enjoyed all there was to do outside. While I cherished my family time these past several weeks, I absolutely love my job as principal & I feel incredibly grateful to work with a staff as dedicated & caring as Westwood's! We are all very much looking forward to welcoming your kids to our school to have a great year!
I email a newsletter with important information as needed, typically once or twice a month, as well as post it on Class Dojo & Westwood's Facebook page. Parents & guardians will receive Class Dojo invitations from their child's teacher once we get closer to the school year, so for now I'll communicate with our new families via email.
Please see the information below regarding the reading assessments as well as a few important dates. I look forward to getting to know you & your child this year!
Please call our main office at 815-337-8173 with any questions or concerns. Communication with the classroom teachers & the office is important to us. If you have any questions or want to know who to contact for certain concerns, please feel free to contact me directly at 815-206-7740.

Summer Assessment Sign Up
Just like last year, we are offering students the opportunity to come into school the week of August 1st to read with a teacher. Teachers complete reading assessments one on one with all students in August in order to get to know each child, their reading strengths, and what they need to work on. This additional week is available so teachers can begin to get to know some of their students before the year begins! By testing students before the school year, we would be able to start differentiated lessons right away, and teachers will be able to maximize their instructional time sooner for individual students. Students will be able to come in to complete this assessment between Monday, August 1 through Friday, August 5. We hope that our families can take advantage of this opportunity, and they may even get to meet their teacher at this time too! Click the link below to review the available slots and click on the button to sign up. Please list your child's first and last name in the comment section. We will try to match your child up with who their next teacher will be but this will be dependent on the teacher's availability.
If you want to sign your child up, please click on the link below based on what grade they will be beginning next year. If your child is in dual language, you may sign them up for both an English and Spanish time slot if there are spots available (Spanish assessments are available in the 2nd grade sign up). Come to the school at your scheduled date and time for the assessment (14124 W. South Street, Woodstock, IL). You do not need to bring anything with you. If you have questions, please call the main office at 815-337-8173.
