Interesting Article To Read

I found an article today that reaffirmed our commitment to Fundations. The article that is linked below talks about the research and brain based information on how we learn to read. It's very easy to read and interesting at the same time. I encourage you to continue to use Fundations to help our students become better readers.

Observation Window

1st grade I will be in this week for your announced observations. Please give me at least 3 times and days that would work for you to be observed during your reading block. Next week will be 2nd grade.

PD Days for K and 2nd

Kindergarten and 2nd Grade I will be around during one of your morning collaborations to talk about when would be a good time to pair you with a 1st grade facilitator to collaborate together. Please start talking about a time that would work for your grade level when all four of you can be there.

Just as a Reminder

We are sometimes the only safe, secure place our students have. As many of you know the hill I will battle for, is that we don't yell at students. Plain and simple it doesn't work! If it did we wouldn't have to think about doing it. They are just miniature versions of us and if we wouldn't do it to co-workers or other adults why would we do it to kids? Please remember that in most cases these students are struggling with issues much bigger. We need to spend time with them and find out WHY they are acting out, not doing homework, spacing out.....etc...... Please take the time to greet your students at your door, by name and welcome them to school. You'll know within seconds how that student is doing and if they need some extra time with you!

Field Trips

Please make sure you are getting field trip forms turned in well in advance of your field trips. We are short on bus drivers and it is hard enough finding drivers 3-4 weeks out let alone a couple days before hand. Requests not made with ample time will at some point start being denied, so please plan ahead!

Upcoming Morning Meetings @ 7:45

Tuesday: We will meet to discuss character counts with Mrs. Folland and the changes being made. The 1st grade team will be going first and will explain their PBL project that will go along with character counts.

Wednesday: 10 Minute in-service (Just the name it may actually take longer) with all classroom teachers.
