Monday Minutes

April 23, 2019

I hope you had a wonderful long weekend, full of rest and relaxation! We have another full week in store. I am sure you are at a spot in the year where you might feel extra busy, stressed, or a little frazzled. There are lots of things that fill my bucket when I'm feeling this way - dark chocolate, a good cup of coffee, or even a nap. The thing that makes the biggest impact for me, though, costs no money at all. A sincere note or kind word from someone I work with makes such a difference to me. This week, I want to encourage you to reach out to a staff member and encourage them. When you see them say a kind word to a student, tell them. If you admire their ability to teach science in an engaging way, let them know. Drop a note in their box to encourage them, stop them in the hall after school, say a kind word in the lounge. Just think of the positive vibe we will feel in this building if we all encourage each other just a little bit more!

One of the things I love about Bethany is that we are truly a diverse campus - we have students from all over the globe in our classrooms with different levels of understanding and mastery of the English language. Check out this article I found that shares a few ideas about how to support comprehension for ELL students. These tips are just plain good teaching and can be used for all of our students, ELL or not!
