CHALLENGE SUCCESS COMMITTEE - BOOK TALK AND RESOURCES
Our Paly Challenge Success committee is inviting our students, parents, and teachers to read the book Where You Go is Not Who You'll Be by Frank Bruni over this holiday break. It addresses the college admissions frenzy and gives suggestions about how we can try to change the competitive "all or nothing" culture surrounding the process.
The Challenge Success committee will be hosting a parent/teacher/student "fishbowl" to discuss the topics in this book on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:00 pm. If you are a student who would like to participate in this event please contact Challenge Success parent reps Heidi Mickelsen (heidihm@gmail.com) or Cari Anderson (cari.anne.anderson@gmail.com).
This is also a time when many of our seniors are finding out results to Early Decision applications at selective colleges. It is challenging enough dealing with the approach of finals next week and the additional holiday stress, and this news can just compound these feelings for our seniors. As you and your peers are learning of these decisions, please be sensitive with the questions you ask and the information you share. One person’s good news may cause another's news of rejection to sting even more.
Here are a couple of articles that may help you process the whole process of college admissions now and during the next several months:
The Paly teachers, administration, and all the staff wishes our students the best of luck during finals. We hope our entire Paly community has a relaxing winter break full of "PDF": play time, downtime, and family time!
