Jackson News & Information
The Latest Happenings at Jackson Elementary!
For the week beginning September 18, 2017
Dear Jackson families,
We kicked off our preparations for the Tiger Trot this week and the excitement is building! The Tiger Trot is our annual jog-a-thon and is the only PTA fundraiser that our school participates in all year. The money raised by the Tiger Trot directly impacts our teachers and students, so we thank you in advance for helping to support this fun event. The Tiger Trot will be held on Tuesday, October 10 and parents are welcome to join us for the event.
Look for an envelope coming home in Thursday folders that your student can use to collect donations and pledges. Businesses and families can also sponsor our Tiger Trot and have their logo included in the t-shirt. Sponsorship donations must be received by Friday, September 22 to be included on the event t-shirt. Contact Tiger Trot chair Christy Pettit at pettitrc@att.net for more information.
Important things to note for next week:
- Curriculum Night is next Tuesday! Please join us on Tuesday, September 19 to learn about classroom expectations, educational goals and each grade's curriculum for the year. PreK-2nd will meet from 6:00-6:45pm, and 3rd-5th grade will meet from 7:15-8:00pm. The first PTA meeting of the year will be held from 6:45-7:15pm.
- 4 out of 5 children are not transported securely. Is yours? Not sure if your child is being transported safely? Join us at the Jackson Booster Bash on Thursday, September 21 to find out. Free booster seats will be available on a first come, first served basis for families who need assistance. See below for more information.
- Third Grade Field Trip--Our third grade students will participate in the Kids are Special People health awareness program at Norman Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 20. Parent chaperones are not needed for the half-day field trip, but be sure to ask your third grader to share what they learned with you.
- Mid-Term Progress Reports—Your student will bring home a mid-term progress report on Thursday, September 21. This will give you a picture of how your student is progressing at the half-way mark in the first quarter. If you have any questions about your student’s progress report, I encourage you to reach out to his or her teacher. Our teachers always welcome communication and questions from our parents.
We hope you can join us at Curriculum Night and the Booster Bash!
Sincerely,
Dr. Craig Stevens,
Principal

Booster Seat Bash!
4 out of 5 children are not transported securely. Is yours?
Oklahoma state law requires children ages 4-7 be in a car seat or booster seat at all times. Children who are 8 and older can ride in a seat belt IF they are taller than 4'9" and fit properly in the vehicle seat belt. Growth charts show that only 50% of 11 year old boys are 4'9" tall, so the majority of 8-11 year old children still need to be transported in a booster seat. Not sure if your child is being transported safely? Join us at the Jackson Booster Bash! We can help!
Free booster seats will be available on a first come, first served basis for families who need assistance obtaining a proper seat for their child(ren). Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be present to check each child's transportation needs and assist with installation of booster seats and car seats.
A Spanish speaking technician and a technician trained and experienced in transporting children with disabilities will be available.
Presented by Jackson PTA Healthy Kids Committee and Safe Kids OK in conjunction with National Child Passenger Safety Week.
