Distance Learning Seminar for second semester begins soon!
The second semester of Distance Learning Seminar (DLS) will begin soon. Half of our students are finishing the course, half will begin it in February. DLS is a required course, but students are not required to attend classes in person or virtually. The assignments are given using Google Classroom and graded on Aspen, as usually, but meetings with the instructors are optional. Students can meet with the teacher as needed by setting a time as needed.
For more information, please take a couple of minutes to view this short video introduction:

MRHS is launching a new E-Sports team
MRHS is launching a new E-Sports team. Anyone interested in E-Sports, particularly students that currently play Rocket League or League Of Legends are encouraged to fill out the attached survey. Also, feel free to contact Mr. Oldach at roldach@monomoy.edu to express your interest and find out more about the team, the MSAA league format, and the required commitment.
The league starts in several weeks, and spots may be limited based on the level of interest, so you are encouraged to respond as soon as possible!
Thank you,
Mr. Oldach.
SurveyCelebrating Brendan!
This young man is one of the most genuine, loving, kind hearted, and hilarious individuals that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and teaching. Did you know that Costello Syndrome Awareness Day was on January 27th? Brendan carries this very rare syndrome ... he is literally 1 in a 1,000,000 <3
On top of celebrating this #raredisease day this week, he also landed his dream job. You are looking at the 1st ever Momomoy Regional High School Official Greeter. If you forget a pencil, pen, mask, or simply don't know what day it is, Brendan is here to answer your questions. You will see him at the back entrance every morning greeting all the students as they enter the building for a fun-filled day of learning.
Keep reaching for the stars, Brendan
The SHORE family is extremely proud of you
MRHS senior Amy Hinesley awarded 2021 Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award for Academic Excellence
Each year, Superintendent Dr. Scott Carpenter awards one Monomoy Regional High School senior the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award for Academic Excellence. This award is given to the high school senior who has distinguished themselves in the pursuit of excellence during their high school career. In selecting the award winner each year, Dr. Carpenter looks for not only academic success within our classrooms, but for demonstrations of leadership and initiative within the school and the greater community. MRHS high school counselors and administrators help with this selection, and for 2021, the team has selected Amy Hinesley to receive the Award for Academic Excellence.
Amy was presented with the award at the School Committee meeting on January 28, 2021. Dr. Carpenter read the following remarks when bestowing this honor:
Amy Hinesley’s record of academic success is impeccable and her leadership, civic involvement, and global awareness cements her legacy. Amy is a curious and inquisitive learner, one who is constantly seeking to make connections in her learning with the world around her. She exhibits a work ethic that is second to none which has firmly planted her as the number one student in her graduating class. Amy is without question driven by her intellectual curiosity and thirst for knowledge. Her teachers describe her as, “a tenacious talent that understands the most complex problems”.
In addition to Amy’s outstanding AP scores, SAT Scores, MCAS scores, and transcript is a student who is truly gifted across the curriculum. But to her credit, she spends an equal amount of time immersed in musical theater, band, and athletics. Amy has a keen interest in politics and a deeply rooted passion for improving social justice across the globe. Her studies are deeply connected to science and she envisions herself working as a global field research scientist. It is quite fitting that amid a pandemic, Amy diligently landed an internship last summer at the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy running a virtual reality lab, as well as assisting in educating the public on shark activity on Cape Cod.
Amy’s activities include: President of National Honor Society, President of Student Council, Captain of the Monomoy Regional High School Mock Trial Team, Student Representative to the School Committee, Captain of the Monomoy Regional High School Field Hockey Team, President of Interact Club, and President of Best Buddies. She is also a passionate member of the STAND (Students Taking Action Now) Club, Political Action Club, and integral contributor to the student-led Social Justice Task Force. Amy was the recipient of the Harvard University Junior Book Award, History Departmental Award, and the Richard Gilder History Book Award. Amy will graduate with a Global Studies Diploma with Distinction. Our school’s Global Studies Program offers students the opportunity to go beyond the high school curriculum to make connections to the larger world. Students who complete the program will learn to understand, care, and act on issues of global concern.
Amy’s passion and drive, combined with intelligence and maturity, will leave her well prepared to solve any problem and persevere through challenges with a conscientious mind and level head.

MONOMOY YOUTH VOICES
Attention Sharks!
Monomoy Youth Voices is here!
Be Seen. Be Heard. Make a Difference.
Masks ≠ Silence
MYV is a platform for you to say what you want to say about topics you care about. We are inspired by the quote, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter". In a year where our lives have been turned upside down, I couldn't think of a more appropriate time to hand you the mic!
Up until Friday, January 29th I will be collecting work that represents your personal voice, experiences, ideas, opinions, stories, messages, etc. It can be in the form of poetry, posters, art pieces, photos, videos, animations, audio recordings of someone reading their work out loud, recorded musical pieces, tik tok videos, essays, etc. The content is up to you! (Artist statements optional, but suggested for visual works to help give the viewer some context!)
We will be preparing a virtual showcase, and launching the website in February. Launch Date TBD.
Send all work to aschuermann@monomoy.edu.
If you wish your work to be anonymous, just let me know!
